Qantas Low-cost International Airline?

Thu Nov 15, 2001 8:05 am

Does anybody hear any news from Qantas's planned startup new low-cost international carrier called Australia Airways or Australian Airlines or something like that? From what I heard was that they are going to begin operation in July 2002 with a fleet of B767-300 and flying to some destinations suspended by Qantas like Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chi Minh City and Shanghai.

After the September 11 incident, there are no more news regarding this new airline. Is Qantas still going on with the plan to introduce this new international airline? They are suppose to announce the details of the new airline like the livery as well as schedules somewhere in October but I haven't heard from them since, but they didn't as far as I know. Is this plan scrapped? Does anybody here have any further information regarding this airline?

Thank you very much for the information provided!

The airline (Australian Airlines) is still in the planning stage and must have its business proposal approved by the board of QANTAS before commencing development and implementation. Should be approved in December.

It has about six executives working on the initial outline for operations.
