SIA Postponed SIN-HKG-LAS To Launch Next Year!

Thu Nov 15, 2001 10:56 pm

I'm really great that finally the aviation industry has a bit of great news!

I remember that i've started the topic "SIA to Postpone Hong Kong - Las Vegas For Time Being" http://www.airliners.net/discussions/general_aviation/read.main/590260

But today, i've got accurate and reliable sources that the postponed SIA to Las Vegas service will be introduced in September 2002 if everything goes on track! The flight will be operated 3 times weekly, using a slot of one of the 6 daily flights (Probably 7 as SIA will fly back to 7 in the near future.)Also, agreements have been made between different authorities long time ago. It's all the contract thing.

However, this is not yet offical or announced, and might have changes till SIA annouces the services.

Also, SIA is planning to fly Moscow (Discussed in another topic) and Tel Aviv in the future, and this is also reliable sources. However, Las Vegas will be the first destination SIA will launch, and hopefully Moscow and Tel Aviv coming!

Too bad if NOT the WTC incident...i'll be able to see the 1st airline from HKG to LAS in May 2002.Too bad!

Best Regards  Laugh out loud

Is there a market between SIN and Moscow or Tel Aviv? And won't Malaysia be upset?

Fantastic news! ALthough surprising. Seems like future planning. Great for Singapore Airlines Group!

Docpepz: Why would Malaysia be upset? I dunno politics that well in your region! But do people actually want to fly to Moscow? Tel Aviv I can understand a bit...

Malaysia would be upset because they're a Muslim country. Which is why I think El Al can't fly here because they're an Israeli airline.

I think once or twice a week would be OK but not any more.

Does the direct Vegas - Tokyo flight still operate by NW with a -200 ??. How about the JAL Vegas - LA - Tokyo flight ??

Anyway lets hope SQ will use the A340-500 on this route, that way at least something good for us spotters will come out of it !!

Hkgspotter1: The NW LAS-NRT flight is operated by a 742. The JAL flight was a 744, but has now been canceled.

Docpepz: Singapore does not care where Malaysia Airlines fly to. Why then should Malaysians dictate what destinations SIA flies to?

El Al Israeli Airlines B744/B742/B777s arrive in Bangkok every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday . . . and Thailand is also Malaysia's neighbour.

There have indeed been much traffic between Singapore and Israel, not just end-to-end but also beyond both SIN and TLV to Europe and Australia.

There are definitely folks who go to Las Vegas from Singapore - LAS being a place that many Singaporeans have visited as part of a broader USA West Coast itinerary. However, HKG-LAS is ultra attractive to the many Hong Kongers who frequently frequent casinos . . .

I don't think they'll use A345s, considering they have just been postponed to a month after the launch, and they would probably do SIN - LAS. However the potential gambling market from HKG - LAS could still make the A345 / 744 viable for that route. Interesting.

While HK people do go to Las Vegas for holidays, usually it is just part of a trip around the US. So I'm not sure how a non-stop flight there would work out. I think most people would want to fly to places like LAX or SFO first, then just go to LAS for a few days. But yeah, if they fly the 345s, that would be GREAT for spotters!
