Denver's a rather expensive airport, and also a hub for two other airlines... not the friendliest place for a low cost newcomer.

WN tried DEN many years back (Stapleton), it flopped big time, thanks to United and Continental, who were the two resident big dogs at the time.

Now that UAL is in a bad spot do you think other airlines will try to move in on it?

I don't think other airlines will try and move in due to United's bad times. The bad times are hitting all the airlines, not just United. If there were a situation where the public was exclusively avoiding United, then yeah, it would behoove the likes of JetBlue, WN and Air Tran to set up shop ASAP. But times are bad for everyone, therefore there is no reason to believe anyone other than maybe Frontier would be successful by moving in and expanding.

Actually I think Southwest abandoned Denver-Stapleton because they were faced with excessive delays which prevented their normal quick turnarounds. They do not operate into Denver International because of the high cost of operating into the new airport.

Dasa is correct. They abandoned Denver-Stapleton because of serious weather problems which caused a lot of problems with their normal quick turnaround. I remembered reading a year or so ago, Southwest said they would come back to DIA in a heart beat once the airport lower their excessive airport fees.

Hope this help.

Southwest is a newcomer? At almost 30 years in business with consistent profits, I'd hardly consider WN wet behind the ears.Besides, F9 (a true newcomer), has always done well at DEN.

F9 is already entrenched in DEN. They currently serve many WN destinations such as:

SLC
Houston
BWI
LAX
LAS
MDW
PHX

Besides, over half of F9's traffic is O/D.

I believe it's the cost of DIA to have an operations, landing fees and etc.

If JetBlue would somehow implement a one stop service from JFK-DIA-OAK/SFO I believe they would clean up on that service. Perhaps start a ONT-DIA service which would most likely produce some positive numbers.

There is probably a better chance of WN serving COS. WN would clean up but who knows if that will happen. There is plenty of service between COS-IAH/DFW, and COS-ORD.

My two cents....

I am told that landing fees at Denver are very high!

JetBlue already serves DEN-JFK, and with the new focus city at LGB, you can bet an DEN-LGB leg is in the works.

Right now the "word" is that the focus will all be in the East. COS will be a great choice, but only after the bigger fish are in the bag.

Over the past 2 years, WN has said they would like to serve COS in the near future.

Right now WN is focusing on increasing frequency in there current route network. It will be a while before they decide to start expanding there route network, then maybe they will add COS. DEN is a possibility, but they seem to be more interested in COS since its an underserved market with a lot of potential.

WN has some big plans for COS if they come. They plan to use COS as a mini transfer hub with service to multiple destinations in the US.

Gate space isn't a problem, there is plenty of it at COS, and COS can be easily expanded.

Jmc1975,

I heard LGB-DEN service from JetBlue is coming soon. Although its just a rumor, so I don't know if its true.

It'd be nice if they increase JFK-DEN service. Currently they only have 1 flight a day, and its a red-eye.
The flight departs JFK 9:30PM and arrives at DEN 11:55PM. Then it departs DEN at 12:50AM and arrives at JFK 6:20AM. A 2nd flight during the day would be nice. Jetblue's JFK-DEN service is the ONLY JFK-DEN service.

Regards.
