Ok...how about the 744s opperated on the SFO - DEN, or DEN - SFO route? Or did you mean all 744s?  Big grin

Thanks!

All 747 aircraft, as well as the 777-200 Intl and 767-300 Intl have them. The 767-200s have a personal video player system that is not built into the seat. The 767-300 domestic and 777-200 domestic have a main screen system.

777 on domestic route - LAX - IAD (flight 144 - correct me if I am wrong) has PTV and is usually 1/2 full, and quite delightful to be on.

Oh dear--so many confused people.

1) The 747s do not have PTVs in the main cabin. They have them in the first and business class cabin. Passengers in the first class cabin on the 747, 767, and the 777 also have a personal video player where the passenger may select an alternate movie selection.

2) All 777s have PTVs for every passenger with the exception of the 2 class 777s. Those are nose-numbered in the 25XX series. They mainly fly high density routes between Hawaii and the mainland, and hub to hub flights.

3) The 763s in in the 63XX series have PTVs for all passengers. The 763s in the 67XX series are domestic 2 class planes with overhead monitors. All of the 767-200s has overhead video, but there are PTVs in first for the use of the UA personal video player.

I hope that clears everything up for you. If you have any additional questions, please do not hestiate to ask. That is what I am here for.

I heard that United had plans to install PTVs on every single seat of their B 747-400s. Can anyone confirm this?

Right now, there are two B 747-451s being wired for PTVs.

United has a lot of plans to do a lot of things.

At one point in time, and still true to this day, United had plans to install PTVs on the 747s. The project was put on hold about a year ago due to a lack of funding brought on by the merger between UA and US Airways.

United Airline, you are correct in that the two 451s are wired for PTVs. They came wired up when UA got them. At the time, UA didnt have PTV plans for the 747, so they were never installed.

Its not when the economy improves, it is when the airline has money to alocate to that.

Right now, United is spending money every which way. In order for United to stop the bleeding of cash, they must make cuts in every which way. PTVs are a pointless thing, which most Y class pax dont even care about. Why should they spend the money on that, if they are not making money in the first place? When things get back on hand, maybe in five to 10 years, you'll see PTVs in coach. Until then...dont hold your breath.

Thanks for so much info ILUV767, I appreciate it... I was hoping United would have PTVs and those external ground cameras on the 744s, but I guess I'll have to wait a while :/

No problem...I'm glad to help. Just to let you know, if you do fly on a PTV equiped plane, there are usually 4 channels of movies, and 5 of short subject features. In addition to that, there is the moving air show map.

Happy Flying!

ILUV767:

That I have to agree with you....... when UAL has the money to allocate on that..... And that is...... when they have sorted out their financial problems.

I hope UAL will recover a soon as possible and will be able to install PTVs on Y Class ASAP.

All the best to United!

By that time, the 744's might be gone. When UA does get around to it, and stop drying up their cash reserves, it might be 10 years, who knows, by then, 744's MAY be gone, they might not be. And besides, hardly any money is made in the back of the bird. Personally I'd rather good service and no PTV than poor service and yes PTV. This is, unfortunately, where UA suffers. It is by no means the worst, but it's not the best either.

I think my point is that unless the PTV's bring money to the 744's, there's no point, especially when it's bleeding its cash reserves dry.

Not for now........ When they have enough cash......

Well, there is an increasing number of airlines installing PTVs in their Y Class. UA may find it hard to compete with these airlines with PTVs in their Y Class.

I guess many of UAL's B 767/777s are equiped with PTVs on every single seat.

Hope they will carry on with the plan, when they have enough cash to install them.

Cheers!

Cash doesn't appear overnight.

And money is not made in economy class on a flight that carries first, business, economy and cargo.

So, is there a point?

I disagree that most Y customers don't care about PTV systems. I have flown the Asia-NA routs for many years (both for work and pleasure) and the PTVs have been a major plus. I notice in Y that almost everyone uses the system. Also, it eliminates the need to crane your neck around that tall guy in front of you to see the movie.
