Airlines At Risk?

Wed Nov 21, 2001 11:40 am

Hi all,
I've been off line for quite a while so I don't know if this topic has been addressed.
In light of the catastrophic events on 11th September I was wondering what airlines would be considered to be most at risk. Obviously El Al and U.S. carriers would seem to fit this category, as would possibly B.A. if Britain stepped up its role in Afghanistan.
Would Middle Eastern carriers be considered a lower risk? Or would PIA become a target due to Pakistan allowing Western forces in its territory? Emirates due to the fact of the UAE breaking diplomatic relations with the Taleban?
In an ideal world all airlines would have minimal risk as a result of adequate security, but even with tighter measures some airlines will continue to attract the terrorist element.

hey peteH,

actually ELAL is posting a profit this 3rd quarter of about 5 million US dollars. more and more people started flying on them after 9/11 events because they are very safe. (one of the safest around)
US carries will remain except for a few.
European carriers such as aer lingus will mostly likely not survive as the european union limits the amount of money a government can give.
