Mexicana DC-10?

Wed Nov 21, 2001 1:57 pm

I never knew that Mexicana had DC-10s. But i found this photo. Do you know where they flew? and when the last one was retired? And do you know what happened to the yellow blue tails? I'll just make a seperate topic about that. Thanks in advance

Mexicana flew DC-10s for about 15 years before they were retired in late 1995 due to a severe economic recession that hit the country. The DC-10-15s flew mainly on the following routes:

Mexico City - Los Angeles
Mexico City - San Francisco
Mexico City - Newark
Mexico City - Miami
Mexico City - Chicago
Mexico City - San Jose, C.R.
Mexico City - Havana, Cuba
Guadalajara - Los Angeles
Guadalajara - Chicago

and domestic service:
Mexico City - Tijuana
Mexico City - Mexicali
Mexico City - Puerto Vallarta
Guadalajara - Tijuana

MDD only produced 7 of the DC-10-15's. 2 for Aeromexico and the other 5 for Mexicana. Basically a hot & high DC-10-10.

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

Mexicana operated 5 DC-10-15's and 1 DC-10-10 on lease from (Greyhound).
I remember that I flew on the DC-10 from MEX (Mexico City) to TIJ (Tijuana) with a stop in LAP (La Paz, BCS). It was one of the best flights I ever had with Mexicana.

Flying the DC-10 domestically was amazing. I also flew on AeroMexico's DC-10 fleet domestically. It is quite sad to see that there are no more wide bodies on domestic routes, exept for ocasional AeroMexico B767 service to TIJ and MTY.

I flew one in business class from Mexico City - Cancun -Miami at the begining of the 90's, very good, but I couldn't understand why, at that time they were using 727's on the JFK route.

I once flew on a Aeromexico DC-10 Mexico City to Cancun. I must say it has been one of the best flight of my life. I really miss that plane, I think Aeromexico should think about bringing a 747-400 for the Europe routes.
