Will BMI Ever Fly To Toronto?

Thu Nov 22, 2001 8:18 am

Will BMI ever fly to toronto YYZ? Just wanted to know as Virgin had started the route from Gatwick, but stopped flying here, would be great to see another British airline fly here, don't know how successful it would be though.

Now that AC and C3 have pulled out of YYZ-MAN (AC will be back in summer 02), a BMI YYZ-MAN might make sense. Also an LHR-YYZ or LGW-YYZ. There are no regulatory restrictions on LHR access for sked flights to Canada.

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

Virgin temporary suspended LGW-YYZ.

i would assume that bmi serving YYZ sooner or later is highly probable in my opinion.
since YYZ is one of bmi´s star partner´s main hub and that´s their focus, at the beginning primarily concentrate on star hubs.

i think because of the problems around flying now BMI dosnt wan to take a chance there are about 3-4 BA fts. 3-4 AC flts and at least 2 AT flights

MAN-YYZ must be a contender for next Summer. Air Canda have withdrawn their own flights, which was a primary reason why bmi wouldn't touch the route. Air Canada plan to return in the Spring, but why not bmi?

-Canda 3000 is gone.
-Royal is gone.
-Air Transat would be the only direct competition and their reputation is in tatters.

British Midland have A330-200 G-WWBD, returned off lease by Scandinavian Airlines, and sitting at Manchester in full STAR Alliance livery. Maybe Toronto could be come a regular destination for this aircraft.

However, I still think flights out of Heathrow to a non-US destination will happen first, with Canada being unlikely out of London becuause of duplication of services with Air Canada.

Not too long ago BMI applied and received rights to fly between LHR and such cities as YYC, YOW and a frw others. Wonder if they will make use of these anytime soon.

I would imagine the GLA-YYZ route would remain as an AC route as I think the bmi strategy is to have 2 long-haul bases (MAN and LHR).
