I cant wait.

New Detroit Terminal Will Open February 24, 2002

ROMULUS, Mich., Nov. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Northwest Airlines (Nasdaq: NWAC - news) and Wayne County announced today that the new Edward H. McNamara terminal and the Northwest WorldGateway at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport will open Feb. 24, 2002.Northwest is opening the facility in February rather than January due to additional security requirements necessitated by the September 11 terrorist attacks, and the need to replace an electrical contractor who left the project last month. The transition to new electrical contractors, which has taken several weeks to complete, is now progressing smoothly. The new Northwest WorldGateway will feature three concourses, 97 gates, with international and domestic arrivals and departures in the same facility. It also will have dozens of customer-friendly amenities, including more than 80 shops and restaurants, four Northwest WorldClubs, a parking garage with more than 11,000 spaces, plus 106 counter check-in positions, 24 curbside check-in positions and more than 80 E-Service Centers for self-service check-in.Passengers will be able to navigate the mile-long Concourse A using the Express Tram and extra-wide moving walkways. Concourses B and C are reached through an underground passenger tunnel and are also equipped with moving sidewalks. For more information on the terminal, refer to http://www.nwa.com/features/detroit/index.shtml or refer to http://www.metroairport.com , or contact Northwest Corporate Communications at 612-726-2331. yeah me too....I think I'll come for a weekend visit....who may come? Maybe we can meet the night before at the hotel bar? Anyone from Detriot can help us suggesting a hotels, etc?

And, finally, do you think NWA will offer a special fare for this event?

I'll try to be there. Too bad that new Westin won't open until 11/02. The Marriott connected to the terminal probably won't be good. Maybe the Hilton or Marriott in Romulus, MI would be good.

Richard Anderson said on his last newswire, that on a pre dermined day, there will be fee waived passes for all NW employees to tour the new facility. DTW workers have been currently having tours of the new facility and I think training. I think they ought to extend the tour priviledge before it opens to us airlinkers at Mesaba and Express (since we'll work there too) and perhaps Worldperks elite members...

Azjubilee said, "And perhaps to World Perks Elite Members." That is a good idea. I never thought of that.

I read the article too. If this is the date, I've already been scheduled to fly into DTW four days after it opens. But, didn't Farve say that he knew from insiders that the opening was actually going to be April? If you read this tell us if this date is true or a bluff by NW?

I'll have to check this place out since my employer had a big hand in the design and construction of this fine facility. It looks good on the video presentation I gotta see how good it'll look in real life.

 Big thumbs up
