New Detroit Terminal Will Open February 24, 2002
ROMULUS, Mich., Nov. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Northwest Airlines (Nasdaq: NWAC - news) and Wayne County announced today that the new Edward H. McNamara terminal and the Northwest WorldGateway at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport will open Feb. 24, 2002.Northwest is opening the facility in February rather than January due to additional security requirements necessitated by the September 11 terrorist attacks, and the need to replace an electrical contractor who left the project last month. The transition to new electrical contractors, which has taken several weeks to complete, is now progressing smoothly.The new Northwest WorldGateway will feature three concourses, 97 gates, with international and domestic arrivals and departures in the same facility. It also will have dozens of customer-friendly amenities, including more than 80 shops and restaurants, four Northwest WorldClubs, a parking garage with more than 11,000 spaces, plus 106 counter check-in positions, 24 curbside check-in positions and more than 80 E-Service Centers for self-service check-in.Passengers will be able to navigate the mile-long Concourse A using the Express Tram and extra-wide moving walkways.
