Why Is Midwest Express Ordering The ERJ145?

Fri Nov 23, 2001 7:50 am

Why isnt it Skyway ordering them? Is Midex planning on using these "RJ" aircraft for long distance flights? Great, just what we need.

It's my understanding YX ordered them to be operated by Skyway, their wholly owned subsidiary, much like NW placed CRJ orders for Airlink Carriers.
Next up: STL-CVG-MKE-MSP-STL.

Midwest Express Holdings (parent company of Midwest Express Airlines and Astral Aviation, aka Skyway) ordered them to be operated by Skyway.

They will have 2-1 seating (normal configuration) like the other Skyway planes. The DO-328Jets have regular seats in a regular arrangement except the seats are leather. The service is significantly better, which is where the difference is.

The order was actually placed by Astral Aviation / Skyway Airlines. It calls for 20+20 ERJ-140 to be delivered from next year on (although deliveries have been deferred by 6-9 months). They intend to use them as add-ons for the 328JETs already operated. As FD cancelled the 428JET project - for which Skyway Airlines was the launch customer - they had to look for another plane in this seating range - and found the ERJ-140. The 328JET will remain in the fleet. Currently 8 are operated, another four are on order for delivery during 2002 and they hold another 10 options (8/4/10). Hope this has cleard the picture
