Varig Star Alliance 747 Question

Sun Nov 25, 2001 12:35 pm

I vaguely recall reading somewhere that the Varig 747 that appeared in Star Alliance colors was only painted on one side (other side was regular Varig colors). Can anyone confirm this?

Here is the other side: (found by searching airliners.net for that aircraft)

The above picture is from 1997, the same year the "star alliance" pictures were taken. The plane seems to have been repainted in whole Varig colors in 1998, but has since been retired.

I saw that too but since the date is only narrowed down to the year in all three photos it is hard to tell.

I can also confirm this. I saw this particular aircraft in Miami 1998 in normal (new) colours. It is now with Atlas Air still in basic Varig colours (which are similar to Atlas colours), but temporarily parked since last Summer.

I have flown on this aircraft! Made a nice change on the LHR route instead of the MD-11 I should have got

I also recall reading it was one-sided.
I also think it only had the livery for a day or two.
