Cathay Pacific: Fleet Question

Mon Nov 26, 2001 5:58 am

I've spent some time browsing through the photos here and I've noticed Cathay Pacific has 332s, 333s,343s, 772s, 773s, etc...

Why do they need aircraft that are SO CLOSE in passenger capacity to each other?

Does an A330-300 have much of a capacity over a -200 series? Same with the A340.

Cathay Pacific does not operate the A330-200. They operate the A330-300 and the A340-300. They have operated the A340-200, but got rid of them a couple of years ago. Besides these, they also operate the 777-200, 777-300 and 747-400.

CX operates leased A340-200 before the A340-300 joins CX's fleet. CX don't have A330-200.

btw, if you are interested, CX had operated 742 and 743.

No 332, just 333 and 333X.

Okay, same question, but with Emirates. I know they have 332s, 333s, 772s, and 773s.

What's the need for planes so close to each other?

Maybe just in case one type needs to be grounded, like when CX had to ground all their 330s a few years back?

And perhaps if they get a good deal from the manufacturer, why not!

Cathay and Emirates have loads of $$$, so why not purchase good quality aircraft?
I like British Airways! I'm not sure why, but I do! ;-)
