NEW: Quiet Supersonic Platform (QSP)

Tue Nov 27, 2001 9:07 pm

Does anybody knows someting about this project from Lockheed? They want to built a plane wich breaks the sound barrier without a huge bang. I've once seen a picture of it... but i can't find it anymore. Has anybody more info?

Thanx,

Doesn't anybody knows something about this? It's the future! And it's big... but I think it's a little secret. No media attention has been made by Lockheed about this. They don't want to corrupt the SST project... (I think)

if they made no statements about it, how come you know about it?
And don't come with "secret inside sources", that's a cheap way to say you made it all up. We're talking verifiable information here...

SST is long dead NASA killed it a while back, even Boeing one of the biggest supports is relizing that they need some thing soon, not way off in the future. Good news the remnets of SST at Boeing helped form the Sonic Cruiser.
At worst, you screw up and die.

The campaign against Concorde that took place here in the US in the 70s will backfire on any future SSTs, unless they can prove to the public that those so-called 'environmental' issues have been addressed.

Just a few weeks ago when the American A300 went down, I remember I heard a witness say on TV "I heard a loud boom, so I thought it was a Concorde coming out of JFK...". Shows you there are still many people that consider SSTs an ecological distaster.

With the exception of the proposed Sonic Cruiser, which will only break the sound barrier in emergency flight circumstances *about Mach 1.02 or there abouts*
Unless of course boeing has a few tricks up it's sleeve.

No large commercial SST is being planned by anyone.

I think you're referring to a technology project being run with NASA, we are not talking about civil aircraft here, apart from some vague applications mentioned to get funding.
If a smaller boom can be demonstrated, then maybe it could help a future supersonic biz-jet.
Even so, mention the words 'sonic-boom' and you won't be able to move for protestors, never mind how 'quiet' it is.
The fact that some actually think that Concorde goes supersonic on take-off, as mentioned in Lapa_saab340's post, shows what you are up against.
