Another "what Airline" Is This...?

Wed Nov 28, 2001 6:48 am

I was coming out of class a UNLV today, and of course I am right under the departures at LAS.

Well, I saw the usual southwest, delta, united, american, america west, etc, but I also saw an MD-80 that I couldn't identify.

It had a white body, with a strip going around the plane that looked like red, orange, etc. and a checkmark looking thing on the tail.

Is this the new Vanguard look, or is it some odd airline>!?!

I think so, but instead of the big area of maroon/red/brown whatever color it is, it was just white.

But the other markings match. So I am guessing it was Vanguard.

Hybrid scheme the one I saw, maybe?

Vanguard are painting the back end of their planes different colors. They have an MD-80 with a white back end and a white front end, with just the band colored. That's your bird.

That would be it! Thanks!

Vanguard started getting the MD80s in March & April, each MD80 has been a different color tail but with the same layout/ribbon design.

Vanguard has 5 MD80s and 8 732s.

Only 1 732 is in the new livery, it is bright green in back. The rest of the 732s are still in the Blue & White Livery. Eventually though as the MD80s arrive those will be phased out.
