LAA have not yet ordered any Tu-204 aircraft. They have however shown a lot of interest in the Tu-204-120. From what I understand from people in Ulyanovsk, is that KATO would buy the aircraft, and lease the aircraft to LAA through Sirocco Aerospace.
Of course, this is still some time off, if ever.
The only aircraft which has gone to Libya is an An-124, which I understand was recently delivered.
The An-70 has been mooted as a replacement for the F-27s currently in the LAA fleet, and tests are understood to be taking place in Libya soon (if they haven't already).

The facts speak for themselves, Libya is a mess.
The country has an unemployment rate three times its arch-enemy Israel, with 1 in 3 Libyans out of a job, it's Gross Domestic Product in terms of purchasing power is 45 billion dollars, compared to Egypt's of 247 billion dollars and Saudi's of 242 billion. Even Morocco with no oil has a GDP twice that of Libya.
Government jobs still account for well over half of the population's employment and inflation is 20%!, only about 10 times what a country its size should be.
The government's spending budget is just over 6 billion dollars, Egypt's is over 22 billion.
Theres more and more and more and more. Yes, with the UN sanctions removed, the country has room to grow and develop, but they've got a lot of belt-tightenening getting their bank in order before any kind of extensive expenditures are undertaken.

Just when i thought that you couldnt be any more naive .....let me explain a few things to you. The numbers that you have provided are 100% correct -however they are meaningless unless they are put in perspective....i'll do that for you..
Libya has a GDP of $45 billion whereas Kuwait has a GDP of less then $30 billion yet enough money to decorate its KU fleet with anything-UAE has a GDP of $54 billion with the likes of EK and GF(partly) to show for it. You compare Libya's GDP to the Egyptian GDP of $247 billion but do you know Egypt has a population of 70 million compared to Libya's 5 million! Saudi Arabia with its $242 billion GDP has a population of 23 million. Ridiculous of all is your comparison with Morroco in this context-Morocco may have twice the GDP but it also has 6 times as many people as Libya!
Libya had expenditures of $6 billion, whereas UAE with similar expenditures($7.3b) somehow had "enough" money to get plenty of new planes. Naturally with 70 million people Egypt can spend so much more.
Libya is a country with a small population and significant amount of oil.....as you so clearly exhibit alot of people do not think much of it but Libya has one of the highest Per Capita Incomes in Africa.
By no means its a Switzerland,and it has its share of economic issues that you have accurately pointed. But Libya, an OPEC member, has a government that has enough money to buy any or as many planes they desire.
I work in Libya, and as of two weeks ago, there were no new aircraft. They are , however, spending a lot of money to improve the airport facilities at Tripoli and Benghazi. I feel that if they so desire, they can buy what a/c they want, subject to the usual US meddling. Given the political situation, if they want airplanes, they'll buy them, and take the money from some other program, if need be . Who's going to complain?
Our ex-President Mandela is an old friend of Ghadaffi's and believe me, our northern fellow Africans are cash flush. The Libyans have invested quite a bit in our petro chemical industries in SA. They seem spend their money in funny ways such as the "greening of the desert" scheme.
The Russian aircraft will be perfect for them as it would allow them to avoid the embargo.

Lybia has important social and economic problems but
you are definitely wrong saying they can't afford buying
new planes...You can say whatever you want with
figures, if the country is able to buy very expensive
weapons each year, why wouldn't it able to buy state-of-art aircrafts ? It's not mathematical, it's just obvious!
Aviatsiva- When you say the An70 is a possible replacemant for the F27, do you maybe mean the An72? The An70 is a brand new cargo transporter, not at all suitable for Libyan Arab.
As for who flies into Libya, After Sept 11, Swissair immediately stopped all flights to Libya, while the rest of the carriers did business as usual. When Swissair wanted to resume service, the Libyan government told them where they could stuff it!

We all know (or at least i hope we all do) that Libya recently purchased an An-124-100 Ruslan from the Aviant Plant in Kiev (thereby proving that they have some money for aircraft). It was recently reported that this aircraft was handed over to Libya, but details are non-existant on who the aircraft will be operated by (Jamahiriya Air Force or LAA [Jamahiriya Air Transport]), where the aircraft is currently, and most importantly, what Libya needs a Ruslan for (maybe some internal government project??).
There is also another airline in Libya formed only recently, called Libya Air Tibesti (or something similar). Firm information on this airline has been impossible to find. Our interest in this airline is the fact that they operate the Yak-40.
Any help you can give would be appreciated......by the way...what are ya doing in Libya?
Scotty; I have not heard of any Antonovs in Libya, or any new airlines. I am an aircraft maintenance engineer for one of the oil companies there, and being out in desert, I don`t see what goes on at Tripoli or Benghazi.
