Britannia..The Latest News ..

Fri Nov 30, 2001 10:41 pm

Thought you might like an update at whats happening at Britannia...

The first Britannia 757 has now been painted and is due to leave Maastrict soon. 3 more are due to be done by January.

6 767-300's are due to leave for the Haj contract soon, leaving 3 remaining 767-300 for UK operations. These will be painted in January.

All 767-200(4) will leave the fleet. Interestingly, two of the best ones(AA, AB) may be accuried by Blue Fox Airlines to operate long haul routes out of Stansted.

The A330 has been chosen as the new wide body aircraft but will take time to be implimented, however the first one could arrive within 18 months. The 767-400 was offered at great discount but was rejected due to problems with range.

2 757 will leave the fleet next year, AR and AO. The company is currently looking to replace the 757 with either 757-300, A321 or 737-900.

Hope you find this interesting. Nothing is confirmed of course but it does come within the company

Any indication of what series A330 they will order? My money goes on the -200!

That new livery is really bad! Also the retirement of the 762.

But I really doubt BY will buy 739, because they won't be allowed to carry more than 189 pax, just as many as you can carry in a 738 (due to number of emergency exits). So the 738 is more likely. Anyway, 753 seems most likely, as a replacement for both 762 and aging 752 - very economical, plus fleet communality with existing 752 -> just what BY is searching for.

Problems with 764 range? Admittedly it does have less range than the A332, but it's still got a similar range to the 763 (which BY has) and non-ER 762s. It'd be strange for BY to choose the A332 considering they've got an all Boeing fleet at the moment and dropped for A320 for the 738 for it's lighter routes. 764s would maintain commonality with 763s as well as the 738s (flightdeck). Boeing would be practically giving away these 764s too -- they could really use a THIRD customer  Laugh out loud

if it is true that Britannia has choosen the A330 all other TUI group members (Hapag-lloyd, Corsair and maybe Aero Lyon) will follow. Interesting side-note: last yer during the summer period I had a long chat with a pilot from HF and he told me that HF had already selected the A330-200 but these plans had be put on ice because THE TUI Group switched its british partner from Thmoans Cook to the Thompson Travel group which mean that the worked out fleetplans with JMC fell apart.
