Sat Dec 01, 2001 9:11 am

I thought this might be a good post, seeing as they are both massive airlines....Who do you prefer?!

BA has a 25% share of Qantas not 49. I read somewhere a day or so ago that QF is now worth more than BA.

On the Qantas website, British Airways have supposedely dismissed one more British Airways executive from Qantas since Qantas brought the stake down to 22%?

Read here:
(From Qantas' website)
British Airways Directors Reduced To Two
SYDNEY, 23 November 2001 :

Qantas Airways announced today that the number of Directors appointed by British Airways to the Qantas Board had been reduced from three to two.

British Airways had the right to appoint and remove three Directors to the Qantas Board while it owned more than 22.5 per cent of the issued shares in Qantas.

Following the recent $450 million placement of shares by Qantas, British Airways' shareholding has been reduced to less than 22.5 per cent.

Subsequently, British Airways is now entitled to appoint two Directors to the Qantas Board.

British Airways has advised Qantas that Rod Eddington will step down as a non-executive Director of Qantas Airways.

Roger Maynard, British Airways Director Alliances, Investment and Joint Ventures and Nick Tait will continue to serve on the Qantas Board as Directors appointed by British Airways.

Qantas Chairman Margaret Jackson said: "It has been a pleasure to have had Rod serve on the Qantas Board and we thank him for his involvement."

RE: Fly Singapore Airlines

Hi

British airways- Have sat ptv on there long haul services to Aus from the UK or vv, but the food is yuck
,the economy class seats are small and the service is bad.

Qantas - most flights don't have ptv, the seats are a little better, food the same as BA, service better than
BA.

Singapore- ptv with more choice of what to watch, better food, must better service and the seats are better.

The only time i have had a bad service with BA is when i have a frecnh woman as the flight attendant on the flight to Montreal. The a/c are clean insdie and the food is not that bad, consirably better that the crap you get on UA or Air Canada.
QF is also a very good airline, i just wish they would hurry up with ptvs!!!
But all in all BA and QF are both very good airlines. Both give good service most of the time and the food isnt as bad as some ive had.

Have flown BA many many times and really enjoy them. SQ, VS are good too, but I cannot understand what all the fuss is about. The food on BA is fine as well.

I flew BA once from CPH and back and it was terrible.
The B757 we flew was just antique, the food was crap,
no good words about the service aboard...
Never flew Qantas but suppose it is a better choice.

When booking my flight to Singapore in January I specifically requested to be put on the BA flight, mainly just because I've never been on a plane with PTV's, and I've heard that the service is much better on BA than QF. As I'll be flying Qantas on the next leg of my trip I'll be able to see for myself how they compare. I hope they're both pretty good because I'll be flying around the world with them (only $1700 Australian/$850 US, such a cheap fare, so who cares if they turn out to be pretty average)

Being American, I don't have any cultural biases. Thas said, I like different things about each airline. Quantas has a majestic looking paint job, but so does BA. The thing I like about BA is that their captains are the best paid. So all-in-all I like BA better, although I've never flown on either.
