speed really is an issue, then the A346 will be at least as good as the B777, due to the increased speed. Not to mention the B767, which is often operated with even slower speed, than the A343.
But can speed be that important? Is speed really an issue in Asia, where many B777 are flying on middle range high density routes? There are - in my humble opinion - far more factors, which decide, if a flight was ok good not.
As I said, there are also statements of other airline executives and surverys, who clearly say, that their passengers prefer Airbus. Airbus and Boeing customer can't say, that passengers would prefer aircraft, which the airlines don't operate. How could the UAL-manager say, that pax would prefer the A340? How could the LH-CEO say, that pax would prefer the B777?
But why do aircraft manufacturers even publish such statements? As if a "normal" passenger (not an A.net-user) would know the difference between a DC-3 and a B777, or a A330....
But then again, show me your survey and I show you the "sponsor". Or in other words: I don't believe everything, since I started lying myself...
As for not flying Airbus out of protest, that's definitely your right to do so, but this is a personal decision, which shouldn't influence the objective discussion about the question "What Is Better For Long Range 747, 777 Or A340?"
BTW, one of my best rides was on a SR MD11, which I enjoyed more, than the long awaited flight on an UAL B772.
My best flight so far was on a SQ B747. But perhaps, this is due to the fact, that this flight was at most 1/3 full, which had as consequence, that almost everybody had a complete row
The only flight missing is one either on an A330 or an A340
Of course, these are only my 0.02 $
