DL Express Markets

Tue Dec 04, 2001 4:31 am

I was looking at flights and cities for DLX.

They have 94 flights per day.

Roughly 25% of these flights are devoted to countering WN in ISP/PVD/BDL/CMH/IND.

Another 25% are to and from BOS to MCO/FLL. AA has a small presence in these markets.

Another 25% devoted to JFK with JetBlue being the competiton.

The last 25% in EWR/IAD to Florida providing an alternative to CO and UA.

DL mainline replaced DLX in the BOS-PBI and BOS-RSW markets. DLX load factor is running slightly higher than last year, most likely due to a 35% reduction in flights and Metrojet pulling out.

Delta mainline is also operating the BOS-TPA flights now with MD-88s.

Anyone think DL EX. will offer BDL-RSW? Express offers service to all Florida cities except RSW from BDL. O & D numbers for RSW from BDL are quite high, over 200, so I could see at least 1 daily possibly?

BDL-MCO 4 daily
BDL-FLL 3 daily
BDL-PBI 3 daily
BDL-TPA 2 daily

I heard Delta Express was reducing their operations in ISP, cutting frequencies to FLL and dropping MCO all together. Is this true? I guess we wont be seeing mainline DL service from ISP-ATL any time soon then. Oh well.

Unfortunately Delta has indeed cut service to ISP. They now only have FLL with Express, ATL with ASA and CVG with Comair.

DLX still flies BOS-TPA. I will fly on them in December.

I would imagine DL likes to keep the aircraft in competition with other carriers. For instance no airline currently flys BOS-RSW non-stop. DL most likely gets the majority of that market just by connecting via ATL.
Why start non-stop service in that market when you are getting the business already? Better to defend Florida against B6 and WN. You can put so much capacity in a market that it's a lose-lose proposition for everyone and hopefully someone balks.

DL is now mainline BOS-TPA. You may need to call DL and make sure the flight times are the same.

I seriously doubt this.

DLMCO- you might want to check my previous comments, and you'll find that I said DL was dropping MCO-ISP. They aren't dropping MCO entirely, just MCO-ISP-MCO. In fact it is a done deal and happened quite a few days ago. ISP consists of FLL along with ASA to ATL and Comair to CVG. I am completely positive of this because my husband is a supervisor for them in ISP.

Why did they drop MCO service from ISP? Too much competition from WN?

We don't know why they dropped MCO, not because of the competition, their load factor was very good, sometime the guys in power have no sense when it comes to things like this.

WN has one daily ISP-MCO roundtrip, so its hardly competition.

N1993R, sorry if that came across sarcastic, didn't intend it that way. I really was saying that we don't know why the powers that be decided to do what they did. No disrespect towards WN, they are a good company, but the market would seem to need more than one choice for pax. It would be good for competition and for the pax in the long run.

Skyhawk - please don't get me wrong. My post was intented to BACK YOU up. WN is not competing in the ISP to MCO market with one daily RT. There is simply no market there anymore with DL pulling out and WN cutting back.
