I'm thinking of using some of my Aadvantage miles by flying in first class to Sydney. I can take Qantas or Cathay Pacific for almost the same mileage cost (135,000 vs 140,000). Anybody have any comments on which one will have the better service? Obviously the Cathay option will go via Hong Kong, but that's ok by me. Thanks in advance.
I would say Cathy Pacific. A connection through Hong Kong I think would be great. Also, if you look at their cabin views here, you will notice that their new first class looks very inviting, more than Qantas. Depending on where you are leaving from, did you ever consider British Airways?
Where are you leaving from?
Anyway, enjoy your trip! Someday I'll make it down their.
Alitalia777: I'll be leaving from Springfield, Missouri, so a connection with AA via DFW or STL and LAX is best. I went to Dubai via Hong Hong in September on CX in business class, but want to try first next time. The stopover in HKG was great.
I redeemed my FF miles in October and flew Cathay First from Kuala Lumpur to London and back via CLK. Their F Class is just excellent, both comfort and service-wise. In fact the HKG-LHR flight didn't seem long enough to enjoy all the delights on offer! I'm sure QF would also be good, but on CX you'd get to sample 4 flights (on a 747-400 transpac as well as their brand new A330-300 to SYD) as opposed to 2 on QF. No contest - I'd go CX! Also make sure you try "The Pier" at CLK - it's wonderful.
CX offers the best First Class product in the market in it was ranked the best "First Class" in the world by Inflight Research Service (UK).
The pampering you get from CX is endless and do sample their lounge products at HKG Airport - The Wing and The Pier which sets the standards of airport lounges.
Onboard your First Class, you will receive high quality pyjamas, slippers and eye shades that all match...definitely worth keeping at the end of the journey for home use.
Soon, you will be able to surf the intranet and send/receive onboard CX's 747-400 aircrafts...this service is already available on their new Airbus A330-300 aircrafts servicing HKG to Australian ports (MEL and SYD).
