Nice fleet list Capt. caveman. The Brasilias have been gone for a few years though. Their last colors in the Sabena group were the following:

If you're going to mention the Brasilias, you should also mention the F28s!

So they still fly only DAT-aircraft? Still no ex-SN aircraft?

They should finally re-start their Africa destinations. I was told SN made really good money with their Africa network. Now that SN is out of business, it's only a matter of time until another airlines serves these destinations, if DAT doesn't re-start those routes soon! Both BA and LH have got many 767/777 AB6/340 parked, I wonder why they didn't take that chance yet.

Come on, DAT, before it's too late!!

Ndebele - in reality, they lost megabucks on the African routes. The only reason they showed 'paper' profits on them was that they were using official exchange rates in their accounts rather than the real 'black market' exchange rates. Long delays in repatriating funds from many African countries - coupled with a high rates of devaluation (look at the rate for the ZAR - touched R12 = $1 yesterday, a 20% devaluation in the last quarter!) means that companies rarely get what they should in 'hard currency' terms.

I liked this period when they used to fly propellers...I'm
a fan of this kind of aircraft types on short haul flight:
The single reason why I used to fly KLM on Fokker to Amsterdam instead of SN, before taking my connection
there...Anyway, thanks for the information Cpt. Picard!

Ndebele,

Do you live in Belgium ? did you watch by any chance
that report on tv about the SN team in
Cotonou still waiting the company to reborn from its
ashes ? it was very touchy to see how people are
proud of SN, how the expats there miss a good company and an alternative to AF, and so on !

Ndebele - Yes I'm Belgian and yes I saw this on tv, it touch my hart to, you know.
And when the plane arrived in Brussels, it was in fact the last one flying, many people of SN where on the tarmac, forming a big human circle around the plane!
We had such good times with SABENA, "good and bad" times, but this you have every where!
Let's hope her sister DAT is going to take over the good times, of her mother SN!
