Air New Zealand Once Weekly To Stl?

Fri Dec 07, 2001 10:50 am

I met a Comair CRJ pilot in St. Louis who said that starting after Thanksgiving, Air New Zealand would be operating a once weekly flight into St. Louis Lambert Field. He said that the aircraft would be a 747. The pilot also stated that he thought the flight arrived here at about 11 P.M. on a Wed and left the following day at around 6 A.M. The pilot also said he was a member of this website if that helps. Who here can verify this, or prove that it is not valid?

codeshare with United maybe? :P

this is hard to believe, considering most of the inbound flights from New Zealand arrive in LAX in the morning hours... so even if they turned the plane, it would land in STL earlier in the evening...

ANZ doesn't fly to STL, it might operate from LAX like the QF 744 flights to Barcelona & other European destinations from LHR instead of being grounded for the day at LHR, but I don't think this is true somehow.

Nope, we don't have plans to either fly into STL or codeshare into there.

I concur.

I work for STL Airport Authority and I haven't heard anything even close to this.

I doubt it. If there was to be such a route ANZ would probably have predetermined the amount of feed they would get from STL's neighboring major cities (Kansas City, Indianapolis, Memphis, etc.) and I doubt that even all four of these cities, with a combined population of over 10 million would be able to support such a flight. It's possible, but not at the moment. We'll have to look into the future for such a flight. The same way Kansas City may have to wait a few more years before British Airways or Virgin or Lufthansa are attracted to us. I would love to see some aircraft from overseas in KCI, but I don't see it happening very soon, although I can make an argument about it. I can just wait and see how things do, if the renovation here at KCI makes us as attractive to new airlines as is projected. Oh well, either way, it would be nice to see a few more airlines, maybe some JetBlue (Vanguard and Midwest Express' NYC services both seem to have very good traffic), or Spirit, and if we're lucky possibly National, or AirTran. Who knows, maybe even a Montreal or Vancouver service on Air Canada, to supplement their current thrice daily YYZ service, or a Mexicana or AeroMexico service to Mexico City. It would be nice, but especially with the way things are right now, it may be years before St. Louis or Kansas City become very attractive to more, or any foreign airlines outside the US, Canada and Mexico. It's sad to say it, but it's true. :-(

OK, obviously the pilot was wrong. When I heard it I was half believing him, but then the logical half said most of AeroGlobeAir7's thoughts. I can share your pain buddy, about the major lack of widebodies at MCI and STL!

Finally Air NZ realise the niche market that exists between NZ and STL. I expect that this route is to go at least 4 weekly before 6 months!  Nuts  Laugh out loud  Big grin

That was good Jet_guy, you had me chuckling. Anyways, Boeing nut, keep me updated if you here about any "rare" visitors that may be at St. Louis because I'll be there!
