Will CO And AF End Their Codeshare?

Sat Dec 08, 2001 10:10 am

I heard from a coworker today that CO and AF will end their codeshare as of March 2002, is this true?

Thanks

I have no information, but I too was wondering about the CO/AF alliance now that CO has partnered with KLM and AF is part of SkyTeam with DL.

Your info just may be correct as CO and AF have each entered larger alliances, their deal really does not seem to have a future.

CO and AF code share on the IAH-CDG and EWR-CDG routes, but each flies its own aircraft on the route, plus some connecting service at their hubs. It was not really a comprehensive deal it I remember correctly.

Well that sucks considering I am half way to the 200,000 one pass mile point required for a one way reward ticket on an AF Concorde.. Such is life.

I heard that the agreement expires in 2004, and will not be renewed after that. Actually though, there is nothing wrong with the current codeshare from CO/AF's point of view. Because they codeshare on the route, their ticket prices are usually the same, thus giving them a monopoly on the IAH-CDG and EWR-CDG market.

It would not surprise me if they did end their codeshare. The has been alot of tension between the airlines after the Concorde crash.

I just received my OnePass statement and newsletter. The code share expires in March 2002. All jointly operated flights will end at that point (CDG-EWR and CDG-IAH) but BusinessFirst customers will still be able to use the Air France Lounge in Terminal 2C at CDG.

I don't think it will matter much in the long term. CO has had double daily service on its own from Newark to Paris for some time now (there is now only one flight due to the post 9/11 cutbacks) and the Houston-Paris flight has done well for years. However, Continental had been benefitting from the AF alliance and funnelling passengers through Roissy to points beyond. My guess is that this will now be done through Amsterdam instead and as such, we might see a larger plane on the daily Newark-Amsterdam flight (currently flown with a 757 but sometimes a 767-200) and that the Houston-Amsterdam flight will be inaugurated (a planned 764 service for May 2002).

I just received the same info as ContinentalEWR....the AF/CO alliance will finish up at the end of March 2002.

By the way, the EWR-AMS flights will go from 757 to 762 to 764 for the summer season, according to my information (which is always subject to change, especially in these times) and the Houston service will also commence with a 764.

KL also flies EWR and IAH to AMS, and I assume that CO will put its code on these flights, have not heard if the EWR-AMS flight will upgrade from a KL 763 to a larger type, at one time is was operated by a NW DC10.
