UA Launch TPE-NRT From Apr 18, 2002

Sat Dec 08, 2001 2:01 pm

AirlinerOnline News has reported that UA will launch Tokyo-Taipei, effective Apr 18, 2002.

In my memory, UA ended NRT-TPE in 1995. I was on this flight in Feb 1994. Also, UA used to have many flights out of Taipei as well.

UA must have ended NRT-TPE later than 1995. I flew to NRT on UA 801 from JFK in November 1996 and I recall an announcement being made about connecting flights at NRT and TPE was a city mentioned. It is interesting to note that the UA 801/800 flight (JFK-NRT-HKG-NRT-JFK) will become JFK-NRT-TPE-NRT-JFK). United seems to be abandoning the JFK-HKG market, even with a stop over. They tried a nonstop in April-August 2001 but it didn't work out too well.

December 06, 2001

Tokyo, December 6, 2001 -- United Airlines (NYSE:UAL) announced today that it will add new non-stop daily service linking Tokyo's Narita Airport with Taipei, Taiwan.

The announcement was made by United Airlines President Rono Dutta in a speech to members of the American Chamber of Commerce Japan in Tokyo. The new flights will commence on April 18, 2002, coinciding with the opening of Tokyo Narita Airport's new runway. United currently offers 13 daily flights from Narita to gateways in Asia and the United States.

"United is excited about launching new service at Narita and we believe these new flights will prove popular with both local and connecting customers," Dutta said. "Narita's new runway is a very positive development that we believe holds great potential and which will enhance the airport's position as a major global hub."

United said it planned to continue its efforts to work with the appropriate authorities in order to secure additional slots at Narita to enable it to launch other new flights in the future.

The flights between Narita and Taipei will be operated with Boeing 777 aircraft. A total of 12 seats in United First, 49 seats in United Business and 197 seats in United Economy will be offered. United's Economy Plus product offering enhanced legroom will also be available.

The flights are timed to offer United's customers convenient connections to and from trans-Pacific flights linking Tokyo with Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Seattle, Honolulu and New York JFK as well as meeting the needs of travelers in Asia.

Effective April 18, flight UA 801 will leave Narita at 6.30 p.m., arriving in Taipei at 9.05 p.m. This flight will operate as a through-service from New York JFK. Effective April 19, flight UA 800 will depart from Taipei at 10.20 a.m. arriving in Tokyo at 2.30 p.m. This flight will continue as a through flight to New York JFK.

The new flights will be open for sale commencing Saturday, December 8.
