Delta Flight 786

Tue Dec 11, 2001 5:39 am

Hello,
I know Delta flight 786 originates in Dallas/Fort Worth, stops in Atlanta, and then travels on to Fort Myers. On the Delta website, it says that the aircraft type is unknown. Doing some research, I learned that the flight is operated with the 763. I'm on the ATL-RSW flight in 2002. Just a question. Does Delta use the 767-300, or the 767-300ER for 786.

I was on a ATL-RSW leg about 1.5 years ago. The aircraft was a domestic 763. The plane sucked, honestly. It was not at all as good as the int'l 763. Although I can't call that a great aircraft either.

Really, what did suck? Do 763's have a nice strong, powerful, and loud takeoff?

Mikeymike...

Remember, Delta sucks. Everybody on airliners.net says Delta sucks, so that must be true. So even if you fly Delta and have a great trip and everything goes well, that's not the norm because everybody here says Delta sucks.

After all, airliners.net are nothing but seasoned travelers!

Delta is no worse than any U.S. major. Actually, here @ DFW it's a nice alternative to AA.

DL tends to gouge less then AA and United.... They've been conservative in their growth for years and shown to provide adequite service. Not to mention, notorious for their 80%+ avg. load factors.

I see no reason to suggest Delta "Sucks".

America West and Frontier pop into my mind when I want to use the word "sucks" when describing an airline when it comes to on-time performance, quality of service, condition of planes, & staff performance.

Those two could learn a lot from AirTran!

I never said DL sucked. Their domestic 763s are just not nice. Or at least the one I was on. The interior was very old and the legroom was near to nothing. I just think AA's onboard-service (as a comparison) is better.

That was not my only bad DL experience. Back in the day, when SR and DL were partners I flew them quite often. I also had bad experiences on a ATL-ZRH leg (int'l 763) and LAX-OGG-LAX (L1011), among others.

The service on Delta is (or at least was, I am referring to my flights over 1.5 years ago - they might have improved) nowhere near to the standards of other airlines like BA, SR or LH.

Don't get me wrong, I am not con-Delta. My experiences with them just weren't good enough to call them great. This is my personal opinion, others might think they're great - that just doesn't mean I have to as well.

Maybe the time will come and I'll give them a try again. Who knows, rumor has it that LX(ex-SR) could join SkyTeam.

I don't think that DL has ever (being last 5 years or so) intended to quite compete on a luxury scale like that of BA, Lufthansa, or Swissair....

With the amount of destinations and aircraft in the fleet, DL's business model is more for efficiency (IMHO) than anything else. I have flown both BA and LH in E/C and B/C in both Trans-ATL and intra-Europe and I don't find anything exceptional about the E/C service over and above Delta....(Pre-9/11 that is). I enjoy BA more so than LH, but I think that the F/A's of all three (BA, LH, and DL) are all similar in service and attitude.

I can't comment on SR having never flown them. (and I guess I'll never will either)

Alitalia777, when I need the lowdown on an aircraft on a particular DL flight I go to the website and create an itinerary. You have the opportunity to pull up the seat chart for the flights that are listed (red button to the right of the flight). This is a pretty foolproof way to determine just how your a/c will be configured, barring an equipment change. There are obvious diffs between the BizElite -300s and the standard domestic.

The way the DL site is set up you don't have to book the flight before looking at the map. This is a great feature since you can see what seats are taken prior to making your flight selection.

I just threw in a May 2002 travel date into the DL reservation form and the schedule says it is a 763. I flew ATL-RSW and back last spring, they were also 763s. All domestic versions. The only 763ER I ever flew domestic was SAN-ATL leaving around 3:30 pm.

(BTW, almost all the coach seats are free on the date I checked in May 02)

Cheers,
Pete

Hey thanks Delta-flyer,
What is the best way to get into first or business elite without having any miles, and only being 15? Ask?

Fly AirTran(They gave you the cheap seat you know!) and pay $25 per segment.

MileMaster: I never remember them having multiple 80%+ loadfactors. Enlighten me on those months.

i flew MCO-CVG in what was said to be a 767-300ER N130DL... but yeah it did suck. it was disappointing after the other DL planes ive been on... MD-88, 737-200, 757 etc. It was old and the seats were dirty and teh overhead bins from the 80's were small and yeah...
