Working With Pan Am

Tue Dec 11, 2001 10:42 am

Does anyone in here work for the new Pan Am? I'm sure you must be proud working with the airline with great name and to be wearing the blue globe. I always thought it must be wonderful to work for Pan Am thinking about working for the airline with the same name of the airline it once was! How is it? I hear that they will be expanding at the end of this year.

First of all the current "PanAm" has absolutely nothing to do with the once great flag carrier of the United States. They set many, many firsts in the aviation industry and wer fantastic to work for. The fact that they were able to buy the name and the logo to me is repulsive. I must admit though that I do still enjoy seeing the "blue ball" flying around.

Skyhawk, I do realize that this Pan Am has nothing to do with the original one, and I do know how much accoplishments the original Pan Am has acclaimed and that's the reason why I respected the airline like many. I highly regarded the original airline, that is why I thought that people working for New Pan Am now would feel proud to work for the airline with the same name. You are right I do think that using Pan Am name and to become an airline such as this is a disgrace, but I hope you understand what I mean. I understand the original Pan Am and I love it so, although you've experiance the airline way more than I have and have felt and seen the things with the airline that I could not imagine, i hope I have not affended you but I hope you will now know what I mean better.

The new Pan Am has nothing to be ashamed of. Since when is it wrong to buy the rights to a name??? That's a part of the way the business works, so get used to it. If you had the chance to attach a great, well-known name to your airline, wouldn't you take it? Of course you would. Don't pick on the PA3 without a good reason. OF COURSE they're not the original, and everyone here knows that. But from what I understand, they're a neat little airline with good fares and some interesting plans (and planes!). I don't see much wrong with them and I agree that it would be a neat feeling to work for them.
Let's keep the criticism constructive here.
Next flight.... who knows.

I fully agree with the last post. Seeing the Pan Am color scheme in the air again is great. Lets also remember that an airline cannot become HUGE overnight. As far as I know Pan Am 3 has been doing pretty well. They have experimented with a lot of routes, thus dropping the underachieving pretty quickly and they probobly have positive cash flows from the charter operations to expand. I for one am hopeful that Pan Am returns to the glory the airline once had and I wish them nothing but the best.

A year or two ago there was a lot of speculation of Pan Am looking at used DC-10's to expand charter operations.Haven't heard much regarding any other possible aircraft in quite some time.

For those of you who are interested, there are quite a few Pan Am aircraft on FSPlanet.com.Even an MD-82,I had a blast with that one.  Big grin
Yes, I actually *do* work for an airline, how about you?

I have had the unusual opportunity to work for all three incarnations of Pan Am from the original, to the carrier that bought out Carnival Air Lines and then came out of bankruptcy as Pan Am III. Tim Mellon (the owner of PA3) is a good man and decent to work for and the airline as a whole, for a small carrier, wasn't too bad to work for. Passengers always used to come up to me in the terminal and relate stories about their experiences with the original "real" Pan Am. It was heartening, being from the original airline, to see the "blue ball" launch so many happy memories for passengers.
DAMN! This SUCKS! I just had to go to the next higher age bracket in my profile! :-(

No matter what the version of Pan Am, I'm happy for them that they are flying, and looking forward to the day that they will fly internationally!

Had the pleasure to fly for Carnival Air Lines that then became Pan Am II. IMHO PAII was an abomination to the name and legend of Pan American Airlines.
Pan Am III will probably disappear when Mellon and Fink get bored with playing "airline".
Sorry to burst your bubble.
PS Carnival/Pan Am merger was a reverse buy out.

Ogseminole, if and only if Mellon and Fink got board of playing the airline game, could'nt let the airline be passed on to other hands, to other investors?
