SAS operates the A340-300 in a three class configuration.

54 Business Class seats in 50" pitch
27 Economy Class Extra seats in 37-38" pitch
183 Economy Class seat in 32" pitch

6 of the Business Class seats (row 1) can be reclined to full flat position (called Business Sleeper). This however calls for row 2 to be left without any passengers.

Great News!

BTW, Business has 2-2-2 seating, Economy plus has 2-3-2 seating (more pitch AND width), and Economy has 2-4-2 seating.

.. and at the same time (roughly), this all-white B767 was taxiing around CPH waiting for its last flight across the pond after serving SAS for many years:

Will the A340 still fly CPH-BKK-SIN?

I'm pretty sure they can do CPH-SIN as well as CPH-BKK without the extra stop.

I'm not sure, but there might be a better load factor if they do both stops. Especially with the increased capacity of the A340 from the previous B767.

Yep still CPH-BKK-SIN.

Well looks like SAS still have to compete with SQ B772 to CPH!Can't they just both codeshare the flight?I really think that's a good idea just like LH to Munich, Air NZ to Christchurch....probably SK has a stop in BKK, probably aiming at the Bangkok market!

Maybe both SKand SQ have quite good load factors on their own routes!

Best Regards

Aargh....*sigh*

I just did that flight. (CPH-BKK) Wish I had done it now, so I could have enjoyed the A340 instead....

Oh, well....

The SAS route to BKK and SIN is a daily flight, SQ only operates a few times a week and so is Thai doing.
It seems as there is a market for all three here, but TG and SK do have codeshare on their flights to BKK.

Thai flies five times a week to CPH and it will probably be increased to six times a week sooner or later, that's what I have heard.

SIA flew three times a week (Thursday, Saturday and Sunday) to CPH with the A340 but since the 777 was introduced I have only seen SIA flying two times weekly, on Thursdays and Saturdays.
What about the Sunday-service, somebody knows?

Hello,

I will be flying to Bergen, Norway sometime in the end of April or first part of May from Seattle. SAS been using the 763 for years. If I book the last part of April and come home in May I will be on a 763 going and an A340 coming home. If I book the first part of May it is all A340 at that point. So sometime in the end of April SAS will switch to A340 service on the SEA-CPH route. Since I have never flown on a 767 before I want to try and book on the 767. Maybe even the last SAS 767 flight on this route for SAS if I am lucky.

Chris:

Go for the A340!
I've never been on a SAS 767, but I've heard that they are pretty old and oretty tired.
The 767 is a great plane, so make your first flight with a "better" one.

Wasn't the first SAS A340 meant to be deployed on CPH-DEL ? Why did they pull out of that route ? It appeared to have good load factors... or did it ?

>> Go for the A340! <<

It will probably be that way anyway. I can only be gone for about 12 days but must be there for May 17th. Norways Independence!!!

Plus I have never been on a A340 and will probably be my only chance.

Off subject but thought I would bring it up. If I book today I can get round trip for $1137 USD. Problem is I would like to wait about 90 days in advance before booking. One reason is like most Americans I am a little concerned about my job future. Number two the airfare seems a little high and might go down. They are expecting tourism to Europe to go way down so air fares might go down. Then again they might go way up after the first of the year like last year. Last year SAS kicked in full summer fares after December. I have never booked a European flight before and welcome some tips on how to get the best airfare.

SAS has already taken deliveries of 4 (or was it 3) A340's.

As far as I know, they are currently used on CPH-NRT, CPH-PEK, and CPH-BKK-SIN.

CPH-DEL did have A340, but I guess the loads weren't that good, since they are shutting down that route in february, and in the meantime it was downgraded to 767 again.

Hi Zander

SQ now flies from CPH Monday, Thursday and Saturday. Btw it looks like SQ will operate to extra flights to CPH in the second week of January. One flight with 777-200 (ER) and one flight with A340. The A340 will operate on the 11th January.

Thai operates six times a week from now and until the summer timetable. There is a possibility that they will continue with 6 flights a week during the summer period but it depends on the bookings.

Hope it helps  Smile

According to SASFO, the 767's are flown to Shannon for a neutral paint, and from there they're either taken back into service (until their replacements arrive). The previous shown pictures were SK944 from ORD, and it was heading for the SAS hangars (presumably, it's kinda difficult to tell on the webcam).
Their last flight will be to Victorville, CA.

The final SAS B767-300ER flight to BKK and SIN actually departed CPH on 8 December 2001 and arrived in both Asian cities on 9 December 2001.

The inaugural A340-300 flight departed CPH on 9 December 2001, and arrived in BKK and SIN on 10 December 2001. It then turned around and departed SIN for BKK and CPH on 10 December 2001.

I had the opportunity to fly BKK-SIN on 7 Dec and flew on LN-RCM but returned to BKK on the inaugural A340-300 flight out of SIN. Beyond the ceremonial send-off at Singapore Changi Airport, it was a smooth ride to BKK.

The seats in Business Class are very well designed and others airlines should take note of its superb ergonomic features and deep blue leather finish. The faulty on-screen safety demonstration does take a little shine off the well-polished inaugural flight.

This must be the world's first A340 with windows in the toilets.

Looking forward to my next flight on SAS' A340 on 22Dec!
