Some Questions About US Airways

Wed Dec 12, 2001 5:50 am

Hi everybody,

I've got some questions. I won a trip from Frankfurt in any part of the USA with US Airways. Now I'm looking to fly to San Francisco with a stop in Philadelphia or Pittsburgh. What can you say about US Airways service and the inflight entertainment in Economy Class on their Airbus 330? Does anybody know how much time the flight PHL-SFO take and which aircraft do they use on this route?

Regards from Frankfurt

FRA M25

The A330 has the Sony Passport PTV System. Totally on demand video, games, TV, etc.

On your connecting flight to SFO you'll probably ride in a new A321, as US is trying to send the newer plane west and the 757s to Florida.

The flight is about 5.5 hrs from PHL-SFO, depending on headwinds, etc.

Have a great flight!

yup, most likely A321 though I did see you'll have a choice between that and a 757. From what I hear the A330's are beautiful and well equipped i.e. PTV's etc. Congradulations and enjoy your trip! oh, the flight from SFO to PHL is a little over 5 hours.

My opinion:
The A330 is the best plane in US's fleet in terms of entertainment!!
You get:
-5 or more movies to choose from
-sitcoms & TV shows
-CDs which are programmed so you can choose what track to listen to, instead of in order, as on any other plane
-nice-sized screen for a PTV!

I really liked flying the A330 last year! It's a comfortable plane, and they're all new, which is a plus. I would love to go on it again, and highly recommend it for Trans-Atlantic flights and PHL-SJU, where it is also used.

As for PHL-SFO, there are three flights listed on usairways.com:

US 63- A320 departs PHL @ 8:20am
US 65- A319 departs PHL @ 2:15pm
US 197-A321 departs PHL @ 5:55pm (this is probably your flight)

I just flew Philly to Rome and back on USAirways A330s. They were EXCELLENT flights. A few minor gripes, but overall VERY nice.

The seats are very comfortable, with adjustable headrests, and adjustable lumbar. Nifty.

The IFE is terriffic- can pick whatever you want, and pause it if you need.

Vacuum lavs are so nice.

The gripes would be....
some lavs did not have soap in the sinks.
The food was hit and miss. GREAT on the flight from Rome to Philly, but bad on the other three- Philly to Rome, and Dallas Philly/back.

Cabin crews were terrifically experienced, especially with the drunk jackass that sat in front of me for twelve hours. We had quite a delay leaving the USA due to a failed NAV system in the cockpit. Two hours. But, it was made as pleasant as possible, and went pretty smoothly.

I highly recommend them, especially the A330. Wonderfully quiet engines, beautiful design, pleansant cabin.

Let's see......

I think that's all I have.

I flew A330 LGW-PIT last May. Definately go for the A330. Good IFE. No gripes about US Airways' service.

Haveric- I don't recall any games being offered on the Passport system at that time.

I would connect through Pittsburgh if you could. You'll have an easier connection at PIT and you'll get to spend a little more time on the A333 if you take the nonstop FRA-PIT, and then your flight to SFO will be shorter on a 75 or A320 family aircraft. Enjoy your trip.

Rome is awesome, everyone should go. Really.

I was there for seven weeks. Stayed in Viterbo, but oft'ed Rome, and also Napoli, Fiernze, Venezia, Gubbio, Sorrento, Pisa, Orte, Pompeii, Tivoli, Cervedri, Tarquinia, and a few others....

Best seven weeks I have had in my life.
