How's Continental Like?

Fri Dec 14, 2001 3:12 am

I am planning a trip from London to San Francisco via Newark, NJ this coming January. Continental offer me one of the cheapest fares available and I would like to know how are their service like in their B737-NG and B777. From London to Newark, I have the opportuninty to choose between Virgin or Continental, same goes for San Francisco if I would like to fly direct from San Francisco back to London.

I am planning to fly London-Newark-San Francisco-London. Or is it London-San Francisco-Newark-London better? Thank you in advance for any replies posted. I think the cabin should be pretty empty at that time of the year, so does this mean I get like 3 seats to myself?

Regards.

I am flying EWR-LGW-EWR this week. I promise to do my best, as do the rest of my co-workers. I hope and belive that all of our customers enjoy their flight on my B767; and I would hope that we provide you with that same kind of service.

Have a nice trip...

I am a real big fan of CO, though all of my flights have been domestic, I have had friends that have flown to London on CO and had nothing but nice things to say about it. Great planes and friendly service, I try to fly them exclusively and am presently looking at a booking to Paris next spring.

Actually it's great how this airline reinvented itself! I took their 777 FRA-EWR-FRA and was very satisfied. Initially I wasn't looking forward to the flight at all as this used to be the carrier from hell in the early 90s.

Don't know about their 737NG as I've only been on their MD80s in the U.S. but I'm sure they're fine.

Anyway, you can't go wrong with CO!

They're 73G's are comfy, but then again, no aircraft is comfortable in coach on a long flight. Anyway, I'll be flying IAH-CDG on CO one week from today. I can't wait. It will be my first time on a 777, and my first intl. flight on CO.

CO is a great carrier. The 777's have in seat videos in every seat even in econ. The 737NG's are overhead videos so you will get a movie on the EWR-SFO or reverse if you chose the otherway. They also have the new seats in the 737's with winged headrests etc.

However, Virgin is a great carrier as well and I always perfer nonstops rather than connections. In my opinion, I would fly on the nonstops in both directions.

I flew IAH-CDG on CO's NY2000 777.

I was disapointed with the in-flight entertainment. The personal TV's has a limited selection of movies, and you couldn't start them when you wanted...they kept on running indefinitely. The quality of the image was also disapointing. One the way back, the video system in my seat didn't even work. I didn't even bother to bitch at the flight attendant to be reseated. I wonder if they would upgrade you to biz class if coach was full.

I enjoyed USair's transcon in-flight entertainment much better on the A330. The picture was crystal clear, and you had a LOT of movies to choose from. The flicks started whenever you wished. Same for the music selection, very varied. On the same lines, I enjoyed the service much better on USAir.

My 2 cents.

what they will do is ask someone if they could switch with your seat.

That's interesting. I wasn't aware of the fact that there are airlines offering "video-on-demand" in Economy.

Which other airlines offer this service?

I am Platinum Elite on CO and love them. I fly over 500K with them every year. Their service, entertainment, and other things are exceptional. Have a great trip!

Thank you guys for the responds. However, I think I am going to fly with United since they offer me a much better fare. For only 99 pounds ($145 USD), I will be able to fly to New York. Sorry for all the trouble and the much appreciated answers. Will look into it if the need arises in the future.

With best regards.

Continental is a damn good airline. The have definitely improved from years ago. And after I read Gordon's book I have been more of a Continental supporter. My only regret is not having flown them more.

Have a nice trip!
Its better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air than be in the air wishing you were on the ground. Fly safe!
