British World Goes Bust?

Fri Dec 14, 2001 3:41 am

There's a post on PPRuNe that says that BWA have ceased operations today, with aircraft being seized by lessors, airports and Eurocontrol (the last related to unpaid nav charges incurred by NJI of Italy, who had been using BWA's AOC).

Can anyone confirm this?

I've confirmed independently that they have indeed ceased operations with effect from this evening. Condolences to all at BritWorld affected by this.  Sad

This is a real shame. I thought British World were doing well at the moment, what with the delivery of it's first 757 and also taking on the 737-300.

This carrier has a long history and it is a sad day for British civil aviation now that they've stopped flying. I'll also miss their excellent colour scheme too.

I just hope they are the last British carrier to go down the road of bankrupty.

I agree this is a real shame everything looked to be going so well for them too. The 757 was employed on the Sierra Leone route and the 737's always seemed to have work.

Hope the people for Brit World will be okay a really bad time for this to happen.

Regards

This is just so sad. Airways reviewed them in the November issue and this has to happen.

Goodbye to an illustrious carrier with over 50 years of history, as British Air Ferries.

Fantastic scheme, a real loss if true.
