Austrian Airlines A340s

Tue Dec 18, 2001 6:07 am

I am going to be flying to Tokyo with Austrian Airlines in February and I was just wondering which model of A340 I will be flying in. On the airline's website, the timetable says it will be a -300, but the flight planner says it will be a -200. I hope very much it will be a -200, but I heard that these two aircraft had been "parked". I also see that the Osaka route no longer operates.

Also, can anyone tell me if Austrian's A340s are equipped with PTVs in Economy Class, like the A330s?

Many thanks in advance.

Hello,

AFAIK, it is an A340-300. About PTVs, I honestly don't know.

Hello again,

Checked the Autrian Airlines site and was left with the impression that there are PTVs:

"After take-off from Vienna we'll show the latest CNN-News. En route to Japan we'll show NHK news, followed by SKYlines, our video magazine, plus a short film on how to use the interactive entertainment system. Shortly before landing, you'll see a film about your destination. Our entertainment programme offers you a total of 8 separate videochannels, Airshow (information about flight data), the board camera and 12 music channels in best CD sound quality. Three of our video channels are exclusive for our Grand Class passengers."

Only the newest -300 is equiped with PTV in Economy. (OE-LAL) The other 340's (2x-200 and 1x-300) were not delivered with that and didn't get them installed up to now.
Concerning the other questions: OS still flies to Osaka but not as often as they used to.
I can't tell you if it is a -200 or -300 in February, but you can check the actual aircraft type on the website of Vienna Airport http://english.viennaairport.com/start.cfm
The time range for checking there is 24h, so now you only find tuesday's code-share flight of All Nippon (OS flights on Friday and Sunday)
