Delta Airlines: Multi Liveries

Tue Dec 18, 2001 6:17 am

I'm just a wonderin, it would appear that each time I view a photo of a Delta aircraft, it has a different livery.
Can't the board of directors make up their minds? It boggles me mind to see so many livery variations for one carrier. Personally, they should stick to the one they have RIGHT NOW!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy It is very clean, simple, and the tail design is quite colourful. But, knowing Delta,
they will be introducing another variation of their livery, oh, when?, next week?

Must cost Delta a fortune in paint jobs, or should I say,
re-paint jobs.

They do this just to offend you. Yes, you personally.

Theres only three paint scehemes. The old old, the old new, and the new new...

New-New
This is known as Deltaflot, WavyGravy, or Leos Colors. This is the one they are going to and sticking to it.

Old-New
This one came from.. um.. Miller? Not sure.. who ever was the last CEO at Delta... when Leo took over, he decided to get rid of it... this was the scheme to go with the 'new' name, Delta Airlines.. now its back to just Delta.

You know, it's comments like those made by Lindy Field which is the reason I rarely, if ever, respond or post on this site anymore. It gets more than a little tiresome to
read comments like these.

Then don't read them. "Boys," if you've spent any amount of time on these forums, and I know you both have, you would have seen the question of "why does Delta have so many liveries" or "Why doesn't Delta paint their planes faster" countless times. Somebody posts on the subject at least once a week. Everybody knows the the two livery changes in the space of three years was unusual and probably rather expensive for Delta. What kind of response did Woodsboy expect?

I must apologize. In that last rant, I meant "Canadi>n Boy," not "Woodsboy," "Rootsboy," or any other "boys" who participate in this forum. Please excuse me.

Greetings:

Many airlines have multiple liveries in their fleet. Take US Airways, many of their planes still have the old silver hull design. TWA also has three liveries after the AA merger. They have the old white hull red stripe livery, the new Globe livery, and the new Hybrid AA/TWA livery. I think it's just a matter of time and money. The airlines have to strip the old paint off, prep the plane, and then paint it. I find it amazing that they can do one plane a week. Just think of the labor cost to paint these birds  Wow! When airlines are losing millions a day painting planes doesn't seem top on their list.

Thanx
Tom

Since 2cn's post was so accurate I'll just go off what he said and add/change a few things. About the middle livery that was decided under Ron Allen, before he left Delta, not Miller. Delta actually has for liveries:
The very very old, With white nose cone, Yes this is a paint job not a mistake!! (this came right after the ancient Delta scheme): Delta 727-200

The old, with black nose cone, (Delta decided it looked better if the back was continued through to the nose): Delta 737-200

The Middle, The one I personally like, took place right before Ron Allen left: Delta 757-200

The Current, The paint scheme Leo Mullins thought Delta needed when he came to Delta. (Yeah Right!!): Delta 777-200

The Olympics, Delta being the official sponsor of the 2002 Winter Olympics in SLC, thought the needed to paint some more planes!!:
