Depending on where I am going, I fly on them. They operate the A320 series, which is a major cost saver, but the thing that I like is the fact they they DO have first class.
Also, when it does come to competing directly with southwest, HP has flights that intertwine with WN, so that they both get a fair share of customers, or even more with the bigger aircraft, and smaller aircraft during the less demanding times of day.
When you think of flying to a particular destination, particularly if it is a hub, you would fly in on the dominant carrier in that hub. America west flies into many of the place that the big guys do, charge less, and make one less stop - if they're going to PHX, which is a major vacation spot in the spring and fall. I have flown interline on HP and DL, on a flight to ORF, via ATL, and found it very pleasing flying on HP to ATL, since the planes arent jam packed, are bigger, and depending on the model, faster.
America west also dominates Arizona, so depending on where you go in AZ, HP, and its afilliate Mesa, will shuttle you around AZ.
I have flown on many carriers in my career as a passenger, stopped in many states, cities, on many different aircraft. I do not dislike any airline, model aircraft, or paint scheme. This is what makes them all unique. Therefore, I am not bigoted to make a choice when I fly, since all carriers are viewed as the same in my eye. Sure, they are out there to make money, but what every airline strives for is customer satifaction. And, for this reason, I do not choose a carrier for what they do, or do not do. I base them on the fact that I can get a low fare, and will provide me with the most effective routing no matter where I go, be it ONT-LAS, or ONT-DAR.
PS: I LOVED those croissant sandwiches that DL used to serve... many people hate them. Me, I just love croissants
Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun.
