Air NZ News

Wed Dec 19, 2001 8:41 am

Just received confirmation that Boeing 747-400 ZK-SUH will be withdrawn from service on 21 January 2002 as the lease has ended.

Sad to see one of the big birds go!  Sad

I'd expect that another leased aircraft, as many of the bigger airlines like CX & UA are grounding 744s. I don't think ANZ quite has the funds for a brand new 744 at this point in time.

I think it'll just go to Marana or similar, no airlines are taking secondhand 744s at the present time, in fact I don't see too many airlines taking new 744s right now.

ANZ quitted FRA Spring 2001, so they can code-share with LH's FRA-LAX, FRA-SIN. Before that NZ only have 2 weekly flights to FRA.

If it arrives in AKL on JAN21 which is a MON it will probably operate as or NZ1 from LHR-LAX NZ90 from NRT.  Smile

SUH is the only 744 that I have not seen so hopefully it will fly into CHC soon so I can see it.

If they're going to get a new 744 or lease another.. why don't they just release SUH?

5 744's visit CHC weekly 3 from NRT and 2 from KIX!
I would have thought they would need a fleet of 8 744's.  Smile

I knew that it was three times a week from NRT but I have seen a 744 arrive from KIX but I thought it was only here due to the xmas rush.

SUH has been a bit of a basket case for NZ..
Always seems to have one problem or another. I can see why it was the first to go.

Lets hope they get another 744 to replaced it.

Does Air New Zealand own any 744's?
