Future Of Spirit Airlines

Thu Dec 20, 2001 3:37 am

I know that Spirit has some DC-9's and MD-80's. What will the replacement for the DC-9 be? New 717's or more MD-80's or perhaps 737NG's?

With their finances at present, I doubt you'll see mmany new aircraft and they would almost certainly be second hand MD80s right now. A lot of those are avialable at good lease rates.

I can not and will not disclose my source....so don't ask.

Spirit Airlines is in talks with GECAS to start a transition to a fleet of A319s or A320s (not dicided). In an all business set up.

In 1999 Spirit moved it's HQ to Mirmar FL, about 15 mile's from FLL and is looking to move a large part of it's operations to FLL in around 2005.
After the opening of the "West Side" of the airport.

Spirit is looking to start going head to head with SW and JB.

From what I've seen at SJU Spirit is doing well on the SJU-FLL-LGA route. The flight is usually full, I wonder if they are ever planning on starting a SJU-MCO flight.

New A320s in all buisness config? Out of FLL? That's a really dumb idea, and going against what has worked for them for the last 10 years.
