Oddest Flight You Have Been On?

Sat Jul 31, 1999 2:24 am

I don't know if any of you have flown on Cayman Airways between Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac. I flew a 6 am flight with my friend and his parents. It was a 737, not sure of the exact model.....only a 20-25 minute flight. Besides us on the flight, there were only 2 other passengers! It was really odd looking from the front location where we were sitting to the back of the empty plane, almost eerie! Nice flight, almost dawn, we flew between some thunderstorms, the lightning was amazing! I think we only climbed up to 12,000 ft. Then we pretty much cut engine power to descend into the 6,000 ft' runway at Cayman Brac. Proir to boarding at Grand Cayman, we were like 4 of 8 people in the entire airport, LOL, we were waiting for a boarding call...maybe?.......maybe not, a guy comes in from outside on the tarmac and says......."are you guys ready?" LOL, we were laughing! Then we get to Cayman Brac, TINY AIRPORT! It has a small boarding area with a luggage conveyor belt. We were waiting for our luggage to come through on the conveyor was pussed through manually, LOL, quite an experience!

My strangest flight was from Kazan, Russia (then Soviet Union) to Moscow on an Aeroflot Yak-42. We had to get to the airport at 3 a.m. for a 7 a.m. departure. We were kept in a separate foreigners lounge (which had really cool Aeroflot model IL-62Ms and IL-86s which I wished I had grabbed and thrown in my carryon) for about 2.5 hours. Then this women in a shabby Aeroflot garb came in from the tarmac with this enormous Marge Simpson-like beehive hairdo. She escorted us straight out into the tarmac towards the Yak-42 which was parked next to AN-24s and a Tu-154B. However, when we got there two mechanics had the center engine casing open and all these mechanical parts on the ground. The lady turned around and shooed us back towards the gate that surrounded the tarmac. We waited literally about 5-10 minutes before they walked us back to the same plane (I don't know how in the hell they got the engine parts installed in that amount of time). We boarded through the back airstairs (like in a 727). Interior was dirty and dusty, but the cabin was very roomy (would have been a nice airplane if it was refurbished). Overhead racks were open. Flight very similar to one in any other jetliner, except there was no emergency announcements (an no overhead oxygen mask mechanisms as far as I could see). When we landed at Moscow's Domodedova airport, we were handed our luggage out of the baggage compartment directly and we had to walk across a major taxiway and then the tarmac to a terminal building underneath the wings of IL-62Ms and Tu-154 (a fabulous view but they wouldn't allow pictures).

Dunno if this counts, but when I was little, my family took me on holiday to Tenerife. I was only about 6 or 7. Can't remember. Anyways, we were delayed, and the gate attendant at Manchester Airport told me it was because a mouse had chewed through some wireing and the Mechanics were trying to fix it. In the end another plane arrived to take us to Tenerife, but I'll never forget that. I can't remember what plane it was or anything about the plane...Except I didn't understand why the wing was wobbling!!!
