No More B 717

Fri Dec 21, 2001 5:36 pm

Read in "Flyrevyn", a newsmagazine for c/a that Boeing
is to scrap 717?
Only sold 116 of them, and they going harder with
Sonic Cruiser and 777-2/3LR. Hopefully the SC will
fly supersonic over the oceans, many fleetoperators
wannit to go at least 1.300 km/h over water!

Hi Hkgspotter.
The sale of 712 is far to low, that´s why(116!!)
Take a look at LH, they got almost all
of the Airbusfamily, so therefore its more
naturale to have one of the giants (A or B), and
it´s eysier for the crew to switch from..
lets say, an 318 to a 333!!
The cockpit is almost the same in this family.

Actuallly I do have to say that the 712 is still going to manufactured and albeit at a reduced rate of production. Considering the fact that AirTran has 60 firm orders and 42 options. TW/AA has a few deliviries yet. Plus the MidEx and Hawaiin orders. Impulse/QantasLink out of Sydney has a few still on order. So why would boeing cut production of the 712.
I Don't know where I am anymore

By continuing production of the 717 Boeing can hope to keep Bombardier and Embraer from entering the larger jet market. If Boeing let this market segment fall to the others including Airbus and there A318 their could be a chance that this will make the others stronger.
Hopefully we will see more orders for the 717.

Since when do the 772/3 and Sonic Cruiser compete with the 717? This is a ridiculous post (especially since Boeing JUST announced they were keeping the 717 -- there's a very long thread in here about it if you hit the "search" key).

Read in a magazine, one should not be surprised that the information (a reasonable speculation) was out of date. Lead times for publishing in magazines is such that what appears certain at the time of writing may, in turn, be obsolete by the time the publication hits the streets. There is no need to attack anyone.

I suppose he read in a magazine that the 717 competes with the SC and 777 as well?

I'm not attacking him personally, but I think I have a point when you could easily SEARCH on a subject and discover that this subject has been discussed at length!

Boeing announced last week that it was to keep the 717 line open. This can be read all about on the Boeing website, www.boeing.com There is also a lengthy news conference you can listen to w/Real Player or Windows Media Player where Boeing explains just what exactly is going on as far as downsizing, cutting production rates and losses for 2001. Its worth the 45 minutes that it runs.

NO NO NO......
You got it all wrong!!!
I didn´t mean competition between 717 and SC/777.
What I read in the magazine was the scap of 712,
and that Boeing will concentrate on building the
SC/772-3LR a.s.a.p.
It was a about "Clash of the Titans", A vs B.....the
good and bad of Airbus and of Boeing, that´s all!
For example: A dont belive in SC ´couse its 1)for
the v.i.p´s only and 2) it´s subsonic.
B dont belive in 380, ´couse they have the 744`LR,
but 380 can take up to 800(!!) pax in one class!*Jezuus*
Great in Japan wich have the worlds 3 buisiest domestic
routs.....
This is what I read, thats all.
