Gulf Air named second best airline to Mideast

A survey carried out by a travel magazine has named Gulf Air the second best airline to the Middle East.

According to a survey by Business Traveller Magazine, the selection is based on votes submitted by business travellers who expressed satisfaction with the quality of inflight services on Gulf Air flights worldwide.

Meanwhile, the airline announced the names of two winners of Gulf Air Duty Free draws Cash in the Air for November and December.

Fahad Muscat Al Khatal and Nur Mohammed Hussein each won $5,000 (about Dh18,000).

Al Khatal, holding lucky ticket number 210824, won $5,000 in the final draw of Cash in the Air held last month, while Hussein, with ticket number 211593, won the cash for this month.

Cash in the Air was a three-month promotion aimed at giving additional incentive to Gulf Air passengers.

From September 1 until the end of last month, every passenger who bought in-flight duty free products worth $100 received a raffle coupon.

Ali Murtada, Head of In-Flight Services of the airline, congratulating the winners, said: "This promotion was conceived to enhance customer satisfaction and we are delighted that it has been successful."

Did Emirates get 1st place then?
I used to think the brain is the most fascinating part of my body. But, hey, who is telling me that?

Both Emirates and Gulf Air seem to get good reviews. I've never been on either, but I do like their liveries, including the special ones!

Well the configuration in the Airbus 330-200 is better than in the 340-300 and no the livery is not that bad.

Though I haven't yet confirmed who is #1 to the Middle East, I would assume top honors went to Emirates. How interesting, since Gulf Air is essentially the role model after which Emirates, from its beginning, has patterned itself.

Which, to me, says that unlike the convoluted thinking of most U.S. airline execs, the airline business is not a "zero sum" game where every pax traveling on another airline is one that was "stolen" from them by the competition; therefore meaning (to them) that competition is to be schemed against at all costs. By contrast, the competition between Emirates and Gulf Air has resulted in excellent service by both which has generated ample traffic for both to not only survive, but to thrive.

Hi:

Emirates is the number one, Gulf Air is the second. So what airline is in 3th place, 4th, and 5th.

2nd Best Of 2?

Sat Dec 22, 2001 11:30 pm

Were the foreign airlines included at all? Otherwise, there would be practically no more than two competitors.

I have flown to Mid-East only by LH and SR, I think. Do the Emirates and Gulf Air have alcohol service on board? I know Saudia doesn't and the western airlines stop serving it when entering the respective airspaces.

There are plenty of other airlines to the middle east:
El Al, Qatar Airlines, Saudia . . .

I've heard that EL AL, is good on security, but average in service--based on what I've read here.

I've never heard anything about Qatar Airlines.

I've always thought of Saudia as prestige airline. But after reading reviews from Skytrax and other opinion based sites I have come to know, that it is not at all what I originally thought.

Skytrax commented on SV recently, and this is what it said:

`Despite a multinational team of staff the service just doesn't impress. An airline lacking identity and not recommended on either short or long haul. With other Gulf carriers offering higher quality service, Saudi Arabian may attract local passengers but find it hard elsewhere.`

Furthermore, gives it 3 stars *** rating overall.

Star ratings for the other mideast carriers included:

Emirates 4 star ****
Gulf Air 4 star ****
Qatar Airways 4 star ****

Egypt Air 3 star ***
Kuwait Airways 3 star ***
Oman Air 3 star ***
MEA 3 star ***

Note: Emirates was once rated 5 star ***** by SkyTrax, but feels that its service is becoming less personalised.

Yeah Saudia is crap. They operate from JFK's most decrepit and worst terminal, T2, a facility, Emirates or Gulf wouldn't be caught dead on.

Also, doesn't Saudia still operate like pax DC-8s?

Saudia isn't anything special, even Pakistan's check in and boarding areas at JFK are much nicer and more modern (like the European carriers AF, BA, LH, AZ) than Saudias. If Emirates joined JFK they would probably go to T4 or T1, the nicer terminals.
