massive easyJet expansion at Gatwick airport
easyJet, the web's favourite airline, is introducing another four brand-new routes at Gatwick Airport from February. This brings the number of destinations served by the airline from Gatwick to eight, and makes easyJet the second largest scheduled carrier at the airport. This latest expansion of routes and services is great news for all passengers for whom an airport south of London is more convenient.

The new services are as follows:

EDINBURGH: Five daily weekday flights in each direction from 12 February
ZURICH: Two daily flights in each direction from 13 February
MALAGA: Two daily flights in each direction from 14 February
PALMA (Majorca): Daily flight in each direction from 14 February

This is in addition to the current services:

AMSTERDAM: Four daily flights in each direction
BARCELONA: Daily flights in each direction from 1 February ... and second daily service from 1 March
GENEVA: Three daily flights in each direction....and fourth daily service from 14 February
NICE: Daily flight in each direction

The introduction of these services means that easyJet now offers up to twelve daily flights to Edinburgh from London (up to seven from Luton). This gives passengers flying to and from Scotland to London an unparalleled choice and convenience. easyJet also flies to Malaga and Palma from London Luton and Liverpool, and to Zurich from London Luton.

easyJet... bringing low cost travel to Gatwick!

Does this mean that Luton is doomed?

Parra - I don't think so. EZY can rely on both LTN and LGW because they serve two seperate markets really, i.e north of London and south of London.

Meanwhile those of us in West London have to keep wishing EZE will start ops from LHR......although I can't see that happening in the next few years!

Just exposes the stupidity of BA releasing all those LGW slots. You didn't need to be a soothsayer to see this coming along.

The start of the death by a thousand cuts for BA at Gatwick.

Anyone know if LGW-GLA will be offered soon ?
I think the market is there, especially if they can operate LGW-EDI

easyJet has some impressive operations now at Luton, Gatwich, Liverpool, and Amsterdam, plus the 4 additional routes:

Belfast - Glasgow
Belfast - Edinburgh
Geneva - Nice
Geneva - Barcelona

while go has developed impressive operations at Stansted and Bristol, plus 4 additional routes:

Belfast - Glasgow
Belfast - Edinburgh
Dublin - Glasgow
Dublin - Edinburgh

Do both go and easyJet operate 737s on flights from Belfast to Scotland?

I think easyJet and go both have a fleet of B737s, but go may have assistance from Titan Airways on some routes.

TNNH, they both use 733s from Belfast International on most flights, although now and then EZY use a 737-700 and go sometimes use BAe146s on Scottish routes.
