Largest Aircraft/Shortest Route

Sat Dec 22, 2001 3:11 pm

Today when I was flying in FS2002...i flew a route which only took 15 minutes....
This got me wondering.....
What the shortest commercial route in the world.....how long does it take.
Also whats the largest aircraft to serve on a short route and how long does that route take.
I hope you know what I mean.

Air India operated a 385 seater betw. COK and CCJ (kozhiklode). barely 20 mins flying time. But that was a Domestic extension to an international flight.

I flew British Midland from London Heathrow to Paris CDG in a B737, it seemed to take not that long like between 3/4 of an hour to an hour, I could be wrong.

Cheers,
Thanks for your replies.

Shortest regular scheduled service I know of is between Mont-Joli, Qc (CYYY) and Baie-Comeau, Qc (CYBC). The 2 airports are separated by the Saint-Lawrence river in eastern Canada and are separated by 65-70 kilometers (40 miles or so).

At the present time, the route is flown with Air Nova Dash 8s and lasts about 11-12 minutes.

Funny thing is B-727s were operated on that route in the late 70s by Quebecair.. imagine that flight time. The route was also flown by a variety of planes over time including Bac 1-11s, B-732s, F-28s, F-100s, BAE 748s, Convair 580s, ATR-42s and Beech 1900Ds.

By the way, the ferry is 45 miles away from Mont-Joli and it takes 2.5 hours to cross to Baie-Comeau

One of the short domestic extensions I know of is YMX to YQC. For example, there is one Paris flight per week from Quebec during the summer. So, for that flight, the plane's route is YMX-YQC-CDG, and the first leg lasts about 15 minutes and the plane used is mostly the 1011.

I think the shortest route there is may be Jersey-Guernsey in the Channel Islands flown by Aurigny Air Services (GR), using Britten Norman Trislanders, and occasionally Shorts 360s.

The route is about 23 miles, and takes about 10-15 minutes!

The route used to be flown as part of a NCL-GCI-JER-NCL route on weekends during summer 2001 by Gill Airways (9C) before their recent demise. I also believe that Jersey European (JY) - now British European (BE) used to operate the route as part of a 3-sector operation with Fokker F27s.

Hope this helps!

Emirates flies the 777 Dubai-Doha (approx. 45 min), Dubai-Abu Dhabi (approx. 35 min).
Also, Lufthansa flies the A340 DXB-AUH-DXB as part of the Frankfurt run.

Ciao!
Your attention, please.

SQ flies the 777 and the A340 between SIN and KUL. That takes 45 mins. It used to use the B747-400. The shortest route SQ 747s fly is the SIN-CGK route.
