ATA 2nd Hub?

Rumor has it that ATA is looking to open a 2nd hub possibly on the west coast spring of 2002. ATA does have alot of new aircraft on order and they all wont go to Midway. Anyone have any thoughts on where the new hub might be and what cities they might serve?
Living in LA, ORD/MDW will always be home!

being HQ'd in IND, that might be an option. West?
maybe, LAS if they could get their hands on National.

Too much competition in LAS.

Not only is there National, but you have Southwest and America West too that basically have hubs. I know Southwest doesn't really hub, but they have a HUGE presence there.

Wouldnt it be its third hub city? they have Midway , IN and this new one ifd they get one. Or isnt IND classed as a hub city?

MDW is the only hub at the moment. IND is the HQ, however is not a hub. All flights and transfers go through MDW (hence why Chicago Express is now d/b/a ATA Connection there). Regarding a west coast hub, who knows. Nobody is talking. However, there will be six 757-300s that are being used to fly strictly Cali-Hawaii runs for Pleasant Hawaiian Holidays vacations. Also, some L1011's are being used for the Funjet vacations out of MSP and MKE, and in the future those are expected to be done by 757's and/or 737's. With four added destinations in February, and hopefully a better gate situation in MDW with the new terminal, the number of aircraft we're going to have isn't going to create a need for a west coast hub.

To be honest, we do need a hub there so people can take advantage of ATA without having to always connect through Chicago. Right now, if someone in MYC wants to go to Orlando, ATA isn't the best option. The same is true for someone going from LA to Seattle. If there are hubs out west and east, this will help ATA tremendously in the long run. So would starting a frequent flyer program, but we won't begin on all the things that ATA needs to get it's act together on. For the times as they are now, I say everything is going REAL good here.

Does anyone think that Sacremento , Califorina could become a hub, or a base for the west? It isnt a base for any carrier but has a decent sized market and a good position.

Sacremento is too small.

There really aren't any hub cities left. If they were going to do anything in Cali, maybe Oakland would work, but the airport is pretty tight.

AA has a strong lock on SJC, SFO is full, Fresno is like Sacremento, too small, San Diego is too small and full. Ontario isnt developed enough, Orange County is well, too rich, LAX is packed, there is nothing.

Why is SMF too small? The location is pretty good, not much traffic with the relativley new terminal? Didnt they serve over 8 mil in 2000? I dont think anything over 7 mil is considered too small for a airline like ATA to hub at. Look at MDW, not too big in itself.
