Sun Dec 23, 2001 10:13 pm

In Ljubljana the engine of a Adria Airways A320 exploded during the takeoff run. The pilot could stop the plane on the runway. All 141 passengers and the crew stayed uninjured.
Police says it was a technical reason. Thje plane was sheduled for Ohrid (macedonia)

There is no such thing as an Airbus Engine. That topic name is totally misleading...

Does anyone know whether the engine was a V2525-D5 or was it a CFM56-5C1?

Well, I answered my own question here. It was the wonderful V2500 which exploded instead of the Dirty 5C1. How come CFMs look so good on 737s, and A340s but they look horrendously dirty on A320s

The V2500 Looks good on any plane, and is quieter. If I were to order an A320, I would get V2500s.

Looks like the engine mechanic that worked on this aircraft will no longer have a job because of this incident.

Airbus doesn't make engines but they must had 2 types engines, 1 of them was bad in mechanical problem... And why would an airline employee lose his job, maybe he was putting oil, and necessary things in egines before take-off as their job. Otherwise something was wrong.
If the Captain or First Officer didnt check the entire plane like he/she suppose to while it sitting at the ramp.

October 27, 2001, I was @ New York JFK Airport all day, was checked out from a hotel from an overnight stay from October 26, I was @ American Airlines Gate 48, and a Captain checked his Airbus 300-600R just 15 minutes before pushback from Gate 48, (not sure what it destination was). I was on a flight arriving @ Gate 48 after this AB6R, it was my MD80 flight to DFW that evening.

On November 12, Did the pilots checked their plane before pushing back, and flight for Dom. Republic. No ones saw anything, but it happened.

Actually it wasn't an explosion but flameout. Fourth stage of the compressor stator blades are damaged.

This happened at 65kts, much before V1. The airplane involved was S5-AAA.

I seriously think I just creamed my pants without any influence from any outside variables.

Hey, I travelled on that exact plane twice, ten years ago when she was three years old.

Still, it must have been pretty scary for the passengers. I can imagine that most passengers' first thought was 'OK, we are sooo dead'...

Luckily, things did turn out OK. Imagine if the flameout occured 5 seconds or so after takeoff...

Thanks for your comment, VC-10..

Still, if one of your engines fails on takeoff, it's harder to gain altitude, or isn't it?

Your climb rate would be reduced, but it wouldn't be "harder to gain altitude."
