Ok, in less than 3 months Mexicana just retired 5 727s and soon 3 more.. by FEB2002 they will have 13, 727s than 20 they used to have.
B727´s no longer with MX:
Also Mexicana years ago start flying with only 12, A320, now their fleet have 24, A320 and the 2 new A319. So Mexicana it´s all ready substituding their fleet.
Today I saw a B757-2 from National Airlines in Mxa´s home manteinance base, don´t know if it´s here for a Class D service or if it´s getting to MX´s fleet. (Hope it´s the last one I mention).
About Mexicana´s B767 that wasn´t true, there was no B767 in Mexicana´s home manteinance base.
Aeromexico will give their DC9s to maybe some other Mexican´s airlines. Like Allegro which it just got 1 DC9 (N935ML) and maybe some other carriers like Aerocaribe, Aerocalifornia and maybe Aviacsa will get these DC9s.
I heard on the past days that maybe Aeromexico will substitude all the DC9s for MD´s 81/82/83/88 and MD87s. We have to remember that AM got all ready 35 MD´s and today I just saw in the hangar another MD all white.. (TF-MDA) maybe another acft for AM.
Aeromexico in March 2003 will start their MEX-MXP route so I think they are getting another B767, I don´t think with the current 5, B767 will handle MEX-MTY-TIJ-MAD-CDG-SCEL-SBGR-MXP at the same time with too many freqs.
Also in Mexican Airlines (AM and MX) we also have to mention some other carriers of the region and compare them. Like Lan Chile I can compare it with Mexicana and Varig with Aeromexico.
Boeing and Airbus offer their products for Short-Medium range was the:
B737-6/B717 and the A319/320.
for Medium-Large range was the:
B767-3/4 and the A340.
So if Lan Chile decided to get the A320 I think Mexicana in a near future they can get the A340.
And in Aeromexico´s case, all their acft´s are either McDonnel Douglas or Boeing. So for the short-medium range maybe they get more MD´s or the B717!!! Which I´ll be very glad if they get the B717. And for medium-long routes they will go for the B777 as Varig did.
So concluding... we also have to mention the big problem of both airlines is CINTRA (which also Mexican government is behind the 2 mayor airlines in the country) the problem is not about money, the problem is CINTRA. So when they split CINTRA things will chance, and Mexican carriers will be even better!
