Do not dismiss my post immediately just because of my name, although I will admit I do have a slight bias for UAL 747-400s (LOL!) Anyway, I recently flew a UA 744 from SFO-ORD. I noticed that the seat pitch was kinda cramped, like the pitch on a 757.
But have you been on a UAL 747-100 to hawaii? Those things are killer. There are like 400 seats in coach, and first class is only in the nose and on the upper deck. Seating is *really* cramped. Even though the 747-400 had the same pitch as the -100, there seemed to be much more room because of the new seats.
However, I think 31/32 inches is the same pitch on all of UA's fleet (with the exceptions of the beloved DC-10s which have 34 inches; but you have to compromise cause the DC-10 seats are old as hell). This is the same case with all of the majors. All seats are around 31-32 inches with the exception of their old planes (DC-10, L1011, etc.) Consumer Reports did a study on this and I remember all the average widebody seatpitches of the Major U.S. airlines were 31/32 inches.
Which United Economy seats did you have? The new ones (with the headrest wings) or the old ones (which are much bulkier)?
Soon enough though, all the 747-400s will be fitted with the new Decor 5, the United First Suites, and PTVs in economy. It will be great, trust me, even if the seat pitch is the same as on narrowbodies. Service is great cause there are a lot of flight attendants and a lot of food to be served!
no wire hangers!
