KARACHI: In the wake of the Indian threat of an attack on Pakistan, the government put all the airports in the country on high alert on Wednesday, Civil Aviation sources said.
Following the orders of high alert, authorities started to take initial steps including installation of anti-aircraft guns and putting on camouflage colours. In case of war, Pakistan Air Force will take over the charge of all the civilian airports. As a first step, PAF has made all its airports functional.
Pakistan Navy also started aerial monitoring of coastal areas. The government also directed all the agencies deputed at the airports, Airport Security Force, Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and Federal Investigation Bureau, to start exercises for emergency situations.
CAA fire brigade has started similar emergency exercises. PIA was also directed to make its plans. During previous wars, PIA had parked its aircraft outside the country. Authorities have also intimated all the foreign airlines operating in Pakistan to suspend their flight operations in case of war, sources said.
