United Express EMB-120's

Thu Dec 27, 2001 12:33 pm

Did United express ever buy Embraers from other airlines like Comair and others? Which ones did they get them from?

Yes. Some of the older ones came from West Air (a UA Express carrier) as well as various other regionals including Comair...I think.

I know Skywest obtained many of theirs from WestAir and maybe a few from Mesa. I don't know anything about Great Lakes' Embraers, but they are no longer UAX so I guess it doesnt matter.

That would be spelled SkyWest, not Skywest (notice the capitalized "W"  Big grin). Anyways... yes those are true... but what about tail numbers such as N1105G and N1110J? Hmmm???

Well I haven't a clue either, but I do believe those are both ex-WestAir aircraft as well... when WestAir lost their UAX contract, SkyWest essentially assumed the assets of the company, including the aircraft and the employees (the majority of them).

Gosh, I hope I never have to fly on those aircraft (N1105G or N111OJ) again...

Yuk!

But the rest of the fleet is great!

P.S. Hey, how come AWAC has reclining seats in the CRJ but SkyWest doesnt?

Actually, SkyWest's CRJs have reclining seats. I've done many flights on their jets (UAX) since September, and I can tell you that it is nice to have a recline-able seat on the CRJ.

____________
N1110J...I remember that plane. Ewwww.
N1105G...That one isnt that bad. Well...maybe...I honestly dont remember. I just recall that the f/a was cool. He gave me a safety card.

If you are claustrophobic, my advice is never fly a prop...certainly not an E120...

I dont really find them to be too bad. I've done over 80 flights on Brasilia's. If you are claustrophobic, then I'd recomend that you sit in the behind the wing exit at row 9. There is about 3 feet of legroom in that row. The ceeling on the Brasilia is at 5'9. If you are taller than that, you will have to duct down as you walk through the cabin. Since I'm only 5'6, I dont really have a probelm on the Brasilia.

Personally, I find that the CRJ is a bit more claustrophobic than the Brasilia. I think that is has something to do with the low small windows and the 2x2 seating.

Short flights in the Brasilia are really not that bad. Especially if you get on one of SkyWest's back galley Brasilias (a good part of the fleet has the aft galley). It makes the plane feel a lot bigger.

5 of Great Lakes Brasilias are brand new... tail #s 290 - 299 (I think they still have 292, 293, 295,296,299UX)
