USA-Milan/Malpensa

Sun Dec 30, 2001 10:38 am

I will be flying to Milan from Newark on Continental in a few weeks and wanted to check which other US airlines fly there.....

I believe they are:

Delta 767-300 daily from JFK
American 767-300 daily from ORD (suspended?)
United 767-300 daily from IAD
Continental 767-200 daily from EWR

Then there is Alitalia....

from JFK, LAX, ORD, and BOS with 767-300 and MD11.

Right?

you are forgetting MIA-MXP daily on M11 by Alitalia.

MIA-MXP is quite an important US-ITALY route, many latin-americans going to Italy connect through MIA.

I think that AA should consider a MIA-FCO or MIA-MXP flight, considering how important is Italy for latinamericans and being MIA the most important latin american hub in the US.

All US Italy routes (daily unless noted)...

USAirways:
MIA-PHL-FCO (5x a week)

Delta:
JFK-FCO
ATL-FCO
JFK-VCE (4x a week)
JFK-MXP (5x a week)

Continental:
EWR-FCO
EWR-MXP

Northwest:
DTW-FCO (seasonal)

United:
IAD-MXP

American:
ORD-FCO (seasonal)

Ethiopian:
IAD-EWR-FCO (2x I think)

Alitalia:
JFK-FCO (763)
JFK-MXP (742)
BOS-MXP (763)
ORD-MXP (763)
LAX-MXP (M11)
MIA-MXP (M11)
EWR-MXP (suspended until 31Mar02)
SFO-MXP (suspended with no re-start date)

AZ'a MIA-MXP flights are indeed very popular (hence, they do use MD-11s over 763s). As for AA, they are going to turn MIA into thier premier international gateway, and who knows, in the future, I could see MIA-FCO working for AA. AZ dropped MIA-FCO last spring in exchange for extra MIA-MXP flights. AA ended ORD-MXP after 9/11, and I believe UA was going to start SFO-MXP, but that never surfaced.

I flew the JFK-MXP (Milan/Malpensa) back in 2000 on Alitalia, and it is a fun flight. Although Alitalia sucks, they fact of being on a 747 is fun, and being on the national airline of italy is great too.

MAH4546 -- US no longer does the MIA-PHL-FCO flight. Now the flight is just PHL-FCO. I guess since the Miami leg is still daily but the FCO won't be daily again until summer, they changed the routing.

Also, I remember reading a few years ago that US was unable to get a frequency from PHL - MXP, but lost it to Delta... Maybe they'll try again with the new PHL international terminal.

Haveric, thanks for the update. I did not know that. With US's current financial situation, I don't think PHL-MXP will be happening, but if they can improve financially, it would surely be a route they will look at.

Alitalia dropped MIA-MXP and replaced it with MIA-FCO.

ContinentalEWR, your confused. Alitalia dropped MIA-FCO. Alitalia before spring 2001 operated MIA-FCO 2x a week and MIA-MXP 3x a week. Now it is daily MIA-MXP, AZ flight 636/637. MXP provides better connections and higher yields, and works out better because Miami and Milan both have huge fashion industries.
