Guys,

how do airports de-ice the runways?? over here today it was getting icy by 6:30 pm!!

They put salt on it ahead of time and if that doesn't work then they put a special liquid on it I think.

Yesterday me and a friend (Herbman) get stucked for two hours at FRA because of heavy snowfalls. From the terminal and later from the plane we saw that approx. 15-25 plow trucks try to keep the runways snow free but only one of three was open for take offs. Also the airport fire department where standing on every runway in case of an emergancy.

A side note...but jet engines love cold weather.
