In the movie on the 727 twice there were instances were the plane deprusserises. when he opens the emergancy exit and when he shoots out the cockpit window. I thin that plane whould have gone down. would it?

Not if the pilots are good. If there are still flight control systems left, then the plane can still fly. They won't be able to control altitiude very well, but if they are good then they can land it.

A plane doesn't automatically crash if it depressurises. Provided the pilots aren't incapacitated, it's pretty much flight as normal. Of course, the pilots take it down to safe altitude. Of course, if the structural integrity is compromised by the depresurisation, it could be a whole different story, but the loss of a door or a window is usually survivable (as has been evidenced several times - a British BAC-111 about 10 years ago lost a cockpit window - pilot went right out, and was only saved by quick thinking of the f/o and a Steward. Or when a United Airlines 747 lost a cargo door in flight, along with 9 passengers, but landed safely)

So don't believe all the media hype when you see a plane in a movie that depressurises and then goes into an uncontrolled nosedive - we all know how horribly innacurate these stereotypes are!

Only if the depressurisation causes damage to the a/c structure or flight controls will it lead to loss of control. There have been numerous cases where depressurisation occured and the pilots landed safely(Aloha 737/United 747/ American DC-10/TWA 727 caused by a bomb blast). In the case of the Turkish Airlines DC-10 the cabin floor buckled and severed all control cables leaving the pilots with no control and they crashed(due to a cargo door opening in flight)

I have actually WORKED that aircraft!  Smile

N727IP, the imperial palace 727-100. The plane has all the amenities that you will EVER need. It has a bedroom, with full-size bed, a mini-bar, a desk, lounge chairs, and a fully GOLD plated lavatory!  Smile

I worked on it during a charter. They had brought it into ONT to film a Expedia commercial. We brought it in, and actually, had to TOW it in further, becuase the jetway would not reach the desired spot (about midway between nose and wing - makes it look lifelike). The whole filming took 10!!!! hours to do, and me, my supervisor, manager, and another person had to sit, and sit, and sit, and sit. We were originally supposed to be IN the commercial, showing us pushing the plane out, but that never came to be, since the director and producer had other plans (damn them!).

One good thing though, they fed us, and BOY DID THEY!!! Not burgers, or chicken, but Shrimp scampi, Prime RIB!!, lamb chops!!!, and other fine goodies.

Just remembering it makes we want to do another (only for the food and plane - the rest, well I dont care for).

Nice movie. The interior shown in the movie does not look like a gilded palace at all, more like a drab grey airliner crossed with a prison van.
I wish I were flying
