Airlines To The South Pacific

Mon Dec 31, 2001 4:43 pm

Ok, slightly similar to my caribbean question the other day- what airlines fly into the South Pacific Islands (excluding Australia and NZ). I know about Qantas and Air New Zealand, and the airlines based in the South Pacific Islands, so what I am interested are any non-South-Pacific-Island-based airlines serving the South Pacific Islands.

I already know:

Tahiti - Air France, Air Lib, Corsair, Lan Chile, Hawaiian Airlines

Rarotonga - None (Only served by Air NZ)

Cheers

I know who Air Pacific are. I am more interested in who flies into the various airports in the South Pacific Islands, than airlines based there (I am pretty up to date on them)

Thanks anyway

Ok, just to clarify, I am interested in knowing about airlines NOT based in the South Pacific Islands (and other than Qantas and Air New Zealand) who fly to the South Pacific Islands.

767-300: You'll find Air Pacific operate the 73G, 738, 763 and 742

Cheers for your assistance so far anyway, but I am still looking,

Hi VirginFlyer

last time I checked Air France fly to Tahiti (via USA) and Noumea (via Asia). A few cargo airlines stop in Nadi (eg Polar, Fed Ex). Otherwise, not many non-pacific airines excet AirNZ and Qantas fly to the South Pacific, unfortunately.

Cheers, Zac

I wouldn't forget Continental Micronesia, which operates it's hub out of Guam, and flys it's island-hopping flights, and to other places like Saipan, Cairns, Palau, Yap, to name a few. Their root network out of Guam used to be alot more extensive serving Noumea, Port Moresby, and some others, but they were slashed.

Air Marshall Islands serves Suva and Nadi, Fiji.
Does Japan Airlines still serve Nadi on any of its NZ flights??

Corsair used to fly to New Caledonia as well, but I just tried checking the web-site (www.corsair-int.com), and I keep getting a "can't be found" message.

Did I miss something.? Did Corsair close down?

Mariner - try http://www.corsair.fr, that works. Looking at their route map, they don't serve Noumea now. AOM has also left Noumea. Anyone know if Tontouta (or any other South Pacific Island airports) has a website?

Cheers

Thanks, VirginFlyer - i was a bit worried there for a moment, because Corsair offers about the best deal San Francisco (Oakland) to Paris.

I checked the Nouvelles Frontieres website (they own Corsair) and they're still taking bookings for Noumea - but it may be with Air France, as some kind of deal.

Cheers

JAL no longer serves NZ, only by a codeshare with NZ , all flights to Japan are now non-stop.

Well, I came accross the Fiji Visitors Bureau website in a magazine this afternoon http://www.bulafiji.com, and going to it, it appears that the only non South Pacific, non-AirNZ/QF airlines serving the country now are Korean and Air Marshall Islands. Ansett International used to serve, as apparently did JAL. The other one which has escaped everyone here is the late Canadian Airlines, who I believe used it on the YVR-HNL-NAN-SYD routing before they had long enough ranged aircraft. I checked at aircanada.com, and they don't fly to Nadi anymore.

Still looking for info on other islands,
