Canadian jet diverted after call
(EDMONTON, Alberta) A Canadian jetliner was redirected and a man briefly detained after a female caller telephoned the airline and accused him of carrying a bomb, police said.
WestJet Airlines Flight 42 from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to Edmonton, Alberta was carrying 124 passengers and six crew members when it was sent back to Saskatoon on Monday afternoon.
Eight fire trucks and eight police cruisers - including a bomb squad - encircled the Boeing 737 after it landed.
Gary Lewis, a staff sergeant with the Saskatoon police, said a 20-year-old man was arrested and then released with no charges. No bomb was found. Sgt Lewis said the female caller had been identified and might face charges.
The flight continued on to Edmonton after police searched the plane and the man's luggage. - Dow Jones
